placed on-line order yesterday thru a site where I have a gift card to cut down on cost.
But the game is on backorder! :(

Can't wait for it to arrive.
Keep posting your thoughts on the game.

The gameplayer is similar but it feels much more realistic.

One of my biggest complaints about WE6 was that teammates didn't get into attacking positions enough. They didn't run into space I would see. Now it seems like my teammates are making more runs, and I can hit them.

The rosters are pretty crappy, though. No Mathis for the U.S.? Garcia? Stewart the best player on the team? It's ok with the edit mode, but it's a pain in the ass to have to go back and redo this stuff.

Anyone mastered FK's yet? I've hit the post a lot with Mathis, got a few crappy ones on target, and got one that I thought was perfect that the goalie saved.

Anyone else try to do the 360 spin any chance they get? Once I found out that at the end the direction the ball is kicked once the move is over corresponds to the point where you started your circle on the right analog stick the move got much easier.

How do you do the 360 and do all players have it? Would love to know.

I CAN'T SCORE in the bloody game. In last year's version I averaged about 1.5-2.0 goals per game on the hardest level with 10 min halves. Through 12 games in my nation league, I'm averaging just 1.0 goals per game with Italy. In WE6 if i was quick to counterattack i could always get a 2 on 2 against the defense, which when followed by a 1-2 pass virtually always led to a player dribbling in unmarked at the keeper. In WE7, even when i counterattack there are always 4 defenders back and by the time I'm at their box, 7-8 guys are back for them.

All in all, the increase in defense in this year's game makes it much more realistic but also less fun in my humble opinion.

Is this game supported by an invasive online community similar to FIFA? You know, websites full of roster and kit patches obsessed over by computer soccer nerds? If so, I may have to go buy this one; sounds like gameplay is something else.

Go to pesinsight.com and you'll see what you're looking for. And yes, this is an awesome game.

I was thinking about it this week-end (as I was losing to Germany vs my Italy in the World Cup QF's after a stoppage time equalize by Totti made it 2-2 and sent it to OT), but I feel sorry for players who prefer FIFA over WE. Every game you play in WE is a gut-wrenching, intense 20 minutes (at least in my game settings). Score a goal, and you're elated. Watch an extra attacker come in to try and equalize and you're nervous. Get scored on and you feel dejected. It really mirrors what you feel when watching true soccer as a fanatic.

FIFA just doesn't give this to you. I can't imagine how intense this experience would be if Konami gave us online and I could play against you guys. It's too formulaic. You're making the same exact series of passes every time up the field. Sometimes you get a shot off, sometime you don't (I played over 100 games with the current FIFA 04).

    Mathis

I created Mathis and was wondering what were the attributes and skill levels people are giving him.

why do some people create mathis? i found him somewhere in the euro league so basically you can just register him to us national team instead of creating him from scratch. i don't care about the us team so i haven't registered him yet though.

yes the cpu's defense in this game is a lot tougher than we6. it's common to see them pack their goal with 9 men leaving only one in front for a counter. there's 2 version of we7 in japan but i don't know which one the us version is. but the earlier version was notorious for its difficulty on scoring and konami made it a little easier on the 2nd version. scoring routine that worked in we6 hardly works in we7. i do, however, score at least a goal or 2 per game but i believe scoring goal in this game is way too tough for beginners. actually i found it's easier to score against level 5 opponent as they attack more and you can very once in a while feed long ball to the forward from your box.
also the game still has the sydrome when you have no choice but to give up a goal when the cpu fully utilize the biased ref, wierd ball bouncing, 100% scoring on the corner kick, etc. this always happens soon after i score. i know konami is trying to get the game more intense but seriously they need to understand that making the game difficult and making it irrational are two different things.

I think Pro Evolution is what they called it in Europe. In the US, the Winning 11 games used to be called "International Superstar Soccer"

    Yes, and no.

    WE7-International is the US version.

PES3 is the European version. which also has Americanplayers but not American clubs at all, obviously.

One of my only complaints so far is the damn clones that pop out when playing the Master League.. I had edited some of the dutch players adding their real names and when i was playing ML on the trasfer windown there were two of each in the Dutch section.. So i went back and put the players i edited on default and well now the blond Davids has a diffrent name..

On thing i used to do in WE6 was to decrease a players attributes so that they would be cheaper and once i bought them i would edit their stats once again. Well i did this with some players but it didnt work as the computer made clones. So i ended up with a player with real weak stats and a clone with improved stats was now available in the trasnfer market. So i ended up paying 3000 quid for a wanker of a player.. This must be complain #2 that now you have to pay a transfer fee for players that are not in a Club..

Coolest celebration so far was done by Martins after bagging a brace he goes into airplane mode flying around the box..

hallelujah! someone else is commenting on this... now i know the puter isn't just picking on me. these two points are by far the worst parts of the game. there are times when the puter won't let you tackle the ball away if your life depended on it, and then boom, they score a goal.
in regards to the other part, the refs are just terrible. i can understand a bit of a bias, but this is absurd. i play on 3 stars and 4 out of every 5 tackles (and take my word for it, they're good tackles) get whistled, and sometimes even carded. does the puter get called for these? nope, not even when he pushes you down in the box.

does anyone know if it's possible to adjust the sensitivity on the shoot button? i think it's way too sensitive. i don't know how many goals i've blown kicking the ball too high.

my favorite was scoring a goal with agoghawa (sp?). he runs over and does the cartwheel into the backflip. big thumbs up on that one.

Yeah the refs suck, I usually am down to 8 players by game end (come on, that wasn't a tackle from behind!!!), but I still only lost to Japan 2-1 in extra time on a great goal by the Japanese (I made some save on a point blank shot and another attacker came flying by with the game winning header). This was on 2 stars too, and I was proud to have done that well since I lost the game before to them 5-1 on 2 star mode.

-Player graphics are good, stadium/fan graphics are not.
-I've just done international games, no Euro games so I can't comment on that aspect.
-Commentators (English) are ok, usually they are totally off base on some calls, like I will accidently kick it out for a goal kick, nowhere near the goal and they go "Oohhhh, that was a great chance!!"...umm no it wasn't)
    -Player customization is awesome.
-Ball physics is what makes the game.

Good game, first soccer game I have ever owned and I love it.

I noticed that when you try slide tackles you do get called for a lot of fouls. So I adjusted and do them at only select times.

so when you set up your option file and you begin the master league do you have to re-buy all of the players you put into the teams????

    can you rename stadiums?

this game is great. way more involved than fifa (which i don't think i will play for a long time). the ability to totally customize formations and set individual instructions is amazing. player reports and match stats are great as well. very realistic.

if they could strike a fifa deal it would be great. they are kind of like the hatrick to ea's champ manager in that regard.

The only thing that bothered me with WE6 is the fact that the game came out in March 03 and yet Ronaldo was still on Inter Milan, 6 month after the transfer occurred. And after Konami introduced a new ****** version with the updated rosters in December. Its a pain to update all the roster manually. So i'm wondering if the roster in WE7 is based on recent times or is it the roster from the summer of 03 (crespon still with Inter, etc).

I wish WE7 had an online capability...we'll all be playing it day and night...

Is it just me, or is it cool that they have "highlights"? I'm such a sucker for that stuff. I still hate how every slide tackle results in a yellow or red almost every time!!

    just like real life.

how often do you see slide tackles? you have to pick and choose. it's one of those things were you have to be careful to make sure you connect with the ball (like the actual game). it is slightly absurd that you do get carded almost everytime, instead of a foul. but it makes you play a little more with your head as you have to pay attention to every detail.

I don't know, I see plenty of slide tackles in the real world. My problem is that STs are the only time the usually call fouls. I guess I don't know how to intentionally pull someone down or hold them up. I'm sure if I did, I would use that more to stop the flow, but as of now STs are my only option to stop things before they progress too far.

I slide tackle about 12x per game. I can usually get the ball about 7-8 times. 1-3 times I miss completely and 1-2 times I get carded. I never slide tackle fro any angle that would be considered "from behind". You have to get a feel for it.

As for fouling, I've found that if you sprint into the opposing player and time pressing the "X" button, you will get a shoulder charge frequently enough. I've gotten several yellows on this. I never do it in the box! Just keep practicing!
