Pure speculation, of course, but ole Bunker Bob said in an interview that KC would beat DCU if KC faced them in a week's time (after MLS Cup). http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/players/457581.html Whatever .... GM
Wishful thinking on Gansler's part unless, of course, Nowak was not allowed to make any tactical changes, or reflect on the previous game. You're a week too late Bob!!!
I would expect Nowak to say the exact same thing had the situations been reversed.. Gansler is saying what any good coach would say.. I don't think this is an indictmint in any way against Gansler, he's doing what a coach should do, and that is to back his club..
Funny how he brought up Preki. I hadn't realized that he had been such a catalyst for them this season and was dropped right before the final.
Not an outrageous statement for a coach to make. It might even be right, but of course a week after MLS Cup would have been just a friendly. We won it when it counted.
Not that it's a huge deal, but that just isn't true. I watched that game on a Wednesday night; NE never trailed by more than a goal. NE got a goal early, KC got two, then NE got two in a 10 minute span near the end. We got three in an eight minute span--something that hadn't happened to them all season. This one bothers me more. K.C. was able to play the second leg at KC after they lost game #1 away--we beat 'em on neutral ground. What, was he expecting to play the hypothetical game #2 aganst us at K.C. before another $5-ticket night? This is all minor--I still think Gansler is pretty classy for not whining about the handball. If it were Ray Hudson, the league and the media would never hear the end of it.
I'm sorry you feel that way about Ray -- I disagree. Bunker Bob is a class act the way he dealt with the referee calls. I find Nowak equally classy because there has been no tit for tat about uncalled fouls -- the most egregious was when Rimando was undercut by Wolff on the play preceding KC's put back onto Dema's arm. Through their classy postgame comments both coaches have left the memories of the game with emphasis on the players, not on some dick referee. I'm mildly curious about the Gargoyle's comments after our 1998 loss to Chicago. I wonder how the called and uncalled offsides rulings were handled? GM
