Tag-line: Basketball, Hockey, Football and Baseball has their own forum, why not Rugby?

A poor Reason for refusual by skipshady (a Mod):

Which you can do just fine in Other Sports as it is set up now. If there were indeed enough interest in rugby discussion to warrant a separate rugby forum, then you'd consistently see multiple threads about rugby on the first page. Alas, such is not the case.

REPLY: there are 4 Rugby Threads in the OTHER SPORTS forum in the first 2 pages.

    USA Sevens Tournament (Rugby)

Poll:Rugby Sevens vs. Regular Rugby: which is better?
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91592

as well as two recent threads in the Business and Media Forum:

ROC Rugby: a little too confident?
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96635

Could Rugby Sevens helps MLS in the future?
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96389

There was a thread a while back about subforums and Rugby only get 5% of the votes. But after the SEven Tourney in LA, more people now know what Rugby looks like thanks to the 8 hours LIVE coverage by FSW. If the poll was done today, there would be a lot more votes coming from new Rugby supporters like myself.

I will post a new poll, Hockey got a forum because it garners 39 votes, while rugby doesn't get one because of only 12 votes. This new thread/poll will prove that RUgby deserves a Forum just like Basketball, hockey, football, and baseball.

    from guamster:

I attended the two-day tournament, or at least most of it. It was entertaining, especially when you consider that I knew next to nothing about the game and its rules prior to this past weekend.

It was disappointing that the stadium was mostly empty (I think attendance was about 8,000) but the action on the pitch was fast-moving and exciting. My favorite teams to watch were Fiji, Samoa, New Zealand and Kenya. The Kenyan fans were great: lots of singing, chanting and flags being waved. Samoan and Fijian fans were also passionate and vocal.

Sadly, the Americans were not too impressive, early in the tournament against England and Samoa. They did recover and won three of their last four games to claim the Shield, which in essence is awarded to the 13th place team. Australia won the Bowl (9th place), England took home the Plate (5th place) and Argentina captured the Cup (1st place).

I may have to start checking out some rugby games on FSW, now that I understand the game just a little better. Un pocito.

    Cheers.

The answer is no. I don't speak for Huss, and ultimately he has final say, but as a mod of Other Sports, I say no. The following post will explain why.

First off, skip is not a mod of other sports. Second, he follows rugby. So his opinion is informed. He was just more articulate and spoke before I or CityIceMan did. We are both in agreement on this issue.

Note: Thead was started by pc4th. As he says it could have been either in B&M or Other Sports. Personally, I think it should be in OS as it is non soccer related.

Note: Thead again started by pc4th. This one, though, is related to MLS and the HDC.

The thread in question is here:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=87765

It should be noted that Rugby finished 6th, notably behind "None" (which was only 2 votes less than Hockey).

Note: Rightly so, this thead is not in Other Sports as it is related to Rugby's use of the HDC. A search of the Galaxy forum shows nothing on the first page (though I swore that there was some mention somewhere)

    There is also this thead:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96927

Note: pc4th has the one and only post in that thread. It was created in the FSW forum and is about FSW coverage of the Rugby 7s at HDC.

    Post Totals:
    Baseball - 567
    Basketball - 1018
    Football - 1323
    Hockey - 775
    Rugby - 167

Of other note, As of this moment, there are only 3 Rugby threads on the first page of Other Sports, and the oldest thead on OS is from Feb 2. That includes a thread from legondary poster Thomas Flanagan. I had to set my search to 75 days to find the next thead about Rugby - and it will drop off tomorrow.

So to sum up, 8 threads, in 4 forums totaling just less than 30% of the total posts of Baseball. But it should be noted that baseball has had a significant drop off in posts as it is in the off season and the split was done about the start of the new year. That is my reason not to have a new forum (and the arguement is strong than I expected).

Ah, but the key word in my post is consistently. If there's sustained interest in rugby and multiple threads are kept active by more than a limited number of posters, then by all means, have a rugby subforum. Such isn't the case, however.

But I see 'nutter has done the grunt work here. I'll exit stage left.

I agree with my fellow Other Sports Mod 'nutter in saying no to the Rugby Forum. 'Nutter summed it up perfectly above.

I think with the growing popularity of Rugby Union and League, there should be two separate forums; one for Rugby Union and the other for Rugby League. It's not vital though, as the Rugby forum we have at the moment is good enough. :)
