Calling Jeff Adams...Bussey is waiting Dallas Acquires "Toni" Nhleko http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/dal0610nhleko.html quote: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DALLAS - The Dallas Burn announced today that the team has signed South African striker Nkosinathi Nhleko (pronounced Klecko). Nhleko, who goes by Toni, has spent the last year playing for SK Brann in Norway, appearing in 20 matches for Brann, including two UEFA Cup matches in 2002. To make room on the roster for Nhleko, the Burn waived midfielder Carl Bussey. Weren't you touting Bussey earlier this year as the solution at right back? He's cheap now... But who would you cut? Maliza? Still think we need him based on Waibel and Roner's performances? Inquiring minds want to know.
Guys and gals, time to get on the hotline and convince Yallop and Johnnie Moore that we need to pick up Carl Bussey. Dallas just signed a new striker and Bussey has been released. This dude has SERIOUS jets. We're talking Donovan and Russell speed folks. He can play right back, right mid and was even defensive midfielder in college (and a damn good one, he was runner up to "Player of the Year"). He was the number 9 pick last year. It looks like we're losing Mulrooney next season. Carl can be developed into a possible replacement (assuming Roner isn't going to be a d-mid). Our roster is full, but we can move DeRosario to the "injured, out for the season" list or ask Saunders to go to developmental catagory. Either way, we can do this. Ok, so who has the email address for us to start begging??? Speed to counter-act guys like Cunningham would be so sweet.......and with Yallop's track record of grooming fantastic defenders, Bussey could be in the mold of Wade Barrett. He's also a threat in the air, he's got serious hops...
bussey Where did you get this from? Everything I've every read about Carl Bussey is about just wonderful a team player he is: never complains, shows up early/stays late in practice, willing to play anywhere and do anything to help out the team. "Carl Bussey worked extra footwork drills with Coach Paleaz after practice."" (3rddegree practice report, 5/22) "Props to Carl Bussey who continues to work hard and do the extra stuff to try and get better even though he hasn't gotten a sniff of minutes in a long time. Lots of guys quit working when in the same situation, this kid continues to bust his but and tries to impress. He scored a real nice goal in training today. "(3rddegree pr, 5/27) These are just from a couple of the more recent reports, I'm sure I could find a lot more. Are you sure you aren't confusing Carl Bussey with Eddie Johnson?
Re: bussey He probably is. I've read nothing but positive reports on Bussey's attitude myself. My only worry for Bussey is his poor technical skills. From what I've seen, he's not very good with his feet. But he's been buried behind Suarez at the Burn and never got much of a chance to prove himself. He might make a good fit.
Wrong guy bud. Bussey is looked upon as the consumate professional. He's disappointed, but instead of pouting and acting like an ass, he just works harder. Yeah, I know he needs some more technical skill, but this was also the problem for guys like Robinson, Barrett, ect. Bussey can and will get there, but at least he is starting from a higher athletic level. He's decent size, very, VERY fast and pretty strong. The only reason he's not still with the Burn are the ridiculously small rosters in MLS. Jeffries wanted to keep him, but because Dallas is having offensive problems, they cut a defender to sign a striker. We never replaced Zak Ibsen. Dunivant was a direct replacement for Barrett. Waibel was a direct replacement for Conrad (central back that can play right if needed). We're short a hybrid right back/right midfielder (which is Bussey's forte). Robinson needs to rest his hammy. If he tries to come back too soon, then he may be out for most of the year. Dayak needs time to heal as well. Another setback and his career could be done. Agoos has been playing injured. Waibel had a calf problem just a few weeks ago. Corrales has ankle problems. See how desperate we are for a healthy alternative in defense? Write DeRo off for the season. Even if by some miracle he recovers just in time for the playoffs, he'll be so poor on fitness it'll be risky to play him. His game is all about hustle and if he doesn't have a high level of fitness, he's not going to be much help.
You can always try mail: frank.yallop@sjearthquakes.com Unless someone else knows of a better email address.
Thanks buddy. I tried doing that with the Johnny Moore one you recommended a while back. Got no response (but the email didn't bounce either). If anyone has a better one, please let me know. I wrote Tom Neale a few years ago and he was classy enough to reply. I know it's probably irritating to get advice from fans, but we're the ones that pay the salaries. Shouldn't we at least have an opportunity to make suggestions? And another "why Bussey and why now?" answer. He's cheap. He's up to MLS speed (having practiced all season). He won't cost us compensation if we claim him RIGHT NOW (but will later on if we decide to add him). This guy will get along real well with the team. He's hungry and a hard worker. I've read several good things about him from youth players that he's coached in the community. Think "Joe Cannon community attitude" and you've described Bussey. He's a nice guy that just needs the "Yallop" touch to become a quality MLS player.
I don't see why not. There's always a chance that the guy may have been off Frank's radar for some reason, and the suggestion will be welcomed. In the times that I have talked to Frank he has always seemed like an open-minded guy who will at least give your idea consideration. As far as the email address goes, I'm more or less guessing, following the general pattern for Quakes FO email addresses.
