Is there any way they could squeeze us into this thing? http://www.bergen.com/page.php?level_3_id=1&page=5266717
No. Doesn't solve the public transportation problem, seats only 7,000, and it would still be run by the NJSEA.
First, a comment, watching the CT MLL team at the Bridgeport Bluefish baseball stadium is horrible. The sightlines and seating arrangements in a baseball stadium work about as well for Lacrosse as they do for Soccer. If they expect the NJ MLL team to flourish in this baseball park, they need to address this. Second, what is attractive about another minor league baseball team? How many baseball teams are there in Tri-State: Bridgeport Bluefish, Newark Bears. Staten Island (Yankees?), Cyclones, etc. Third, if they are concerned about expanding the attraction base, what about a soccer and lacrosse combination. The only problem with lacrosse and scocer sharing the same grass field is that Lacrosse wears out the goal mouth area (positioned at about the top of the penalty box) in an instant. Fourth, for a soccer specific stadium, couldn't the stadium be potentially used for WUSA, College and HS games?
But I think this would be good for a Harrison stadium for us. Why: 1. Gets some Pork for the Bergen County Pols who are currently against the state funding anything sports related not tied to the Swamplands. 2. Gets the NJSEA some Pork and lets them lossen the grip on the State for allowing us to leave. A bit far-fetched, but it could happen.
1st: Why would they want to play in a 7,000 seat Minor League Ball Park? The idea is to get our own stadium built for Soccer. The Harrison renewal project that will include the Metros new stadium for 25,000+ 2nd: Bergen Cliff Hawks will say that they don't want Metro ruining the field, because the already have the Lacrosse team doing it. 3rd: Metro will remain in Giants Stadium unless the Stadium project will be approved by the full senate & signed on McGreevey's desk. Guess what I don't want to see soccer in a minor league ballpark. Look at what's happening at Frontier Field up in Rochester, NY. The Rochester Red Wings (AAA) International League Baseball Club, Rochester Rhinos A-League Soccer Club & the Rochester Major Lacrosse League club is playing all their home games inside the stadium. It's pathetic to hear that the Rhinos got NY state approval from Pataki to build their new Soccer Stadium, but the Rochester Sports authority is not going to allow the stadium to get built. They want to have all the money and not lose their big pay days. For those of you that I have read and posted about there won't be a stadium and it's all B.S. October 24th is coming, the Newark Arena has been cut off from the bill. It's up to Nick & the Harrison redevelopment project committee to get together and convince the Senate that this is the right thing to happen. So far it sounds like it's going the right way. For those who have said, "I WON'T BELIEVE IT TILL I'M SITTING IN MY SEAT INSIDE THE NEW STADIUM!" Fook that. I won't believe it till I see the silver ceremonial shovel break ground in Harrison and everyone shaking hands that this project is finally on it's way.
If Gio had been right all along, we would have had a stadium built already based on message he received on a cocktail napkin from an "insider" at the Charlie Brown's in Parsippany. We will see, October 24.
If it was that simple it would have been done already. I'm beginning to get the feeling the NJ Legislature don't take nick so seriously either. If he could be hoodwinked into taking a damaged Balboa, stringing him along on the stadium deal is child's play.
