I mean, how anyone can leave Debarge out of the pantheon is just beyond me.

    Here's my Top Ten:

    1. Rhythm of the Night
    2. You Wear It Well
    3. Love Me In A Special Way
    4. Who's Holding Donna Now?
    5. I Like It
    6. Time Will Reveal
    7. Dance All Night
    8. Stay With Me
    9. Stop! Don't Tease Me
    10. All This Love

That was done by a DeBarge, namely El Debarge (Not to be confused with downtown NYC drag-queen performance artist Flotilla DeBarge).

"All This Love" is the penultimate 8th Grade slow dance tune.

Man, if I had a nickel for every mix tape I made with Debarge/El Debarge, Klymaxx, The Jets, Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Stacey Q, Jodi Whatley, Shanice and Chaka Khan on it, I'd have 5 cents.

Do we have a "where are they now" on this guy? I know he basically ended his career by divorcing Janet Jackson (or Ms. Jackson, if you nasty), but I can't say I've heard of him since. Surely there is some Motown dinner theater circuit for the likes of Debarge, Ready for the World, Cameo, New Edition and Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds.

I thought that guy was arrested for joking about having a bomb on a passenger plane.

My friend once had to take me out for dinner and drinks because he thought that "Rhythm of the Night" was by Menudo. I told him he was wrong-we made a bet-the rest is history.

That's my fondest memory of DeBarge.

Don't forget one of the DeBarge clan sang solo and backup on the song "Secret Garden" from the early 90s. It was part of the "Back on the Block" c.d. produced by Quincy Jones that featured rappers and jazz and R&B singers performing together.

I think El sang and appeared in the video for "Who's Johnny", which is from some 1980s movie with Ally Sheedy about a robot or something.

Michael, you are really showing your age with this one. Besides, Rockwell could take DeBarge any day of the week.

I think Chico was the Debarge that got locked up for drug offenses. Was he even in DeBarge, or was he the Jimmy Osmond/Randy Jackson of the family?

I'll give you several nickels more if you can find that tape and bring it to the next tailgate.

Now I'm off to Kazaa to find the 12" version of The Jets' "Rock It To You".

All lost in the haze of youth, I'm afraid, along with my 45" of Keith Sweat's "I want her" and Kool Moe Dee's "Knowledge is King".

So hard to pick a favorite Jets song (Does anyone know what Taco Bell they work at now? (only kidding)). I think "You've got it all" takes it. Probably my favorite latino cheese ballad of the 80s. Mention Glenn Medieros (sp) anyone, and I kick your @ss. Speaking of Latino cheese, remember when Jon Secada broke in Spanish first with "Otro Dia Mas Sin Verte" before it became "just another day withouth you?" Many high school memories on the D train trying to get that song out of my head.

And on Lisa Lisa, merits of "lost in emotion" aside, anyone remember "all cried out", her ballad? Man, I can still remember the dress she wore in the video. Well, the top half anyway.

And did Serg really have no idea who debarge is? How can that be? And you call yourself a drummer.

I was dating a woman earlier this summer and we were driving through some western suburb of Minneapolis (Golden Valley, maybe?) where she used to live and as we drove down this one street she pointed at this big house and said, "The Jets used to live there. Remember the Jets?"

    I did, but only vaguely.

Damn, I always feel like somebody's watching me...

Now I can't get the damn DeBarge song out of my head! Who the **** cares who's holding Donna now? I knew this was going to happen, but I had to click this thread anyway.

Here, think about Hall and Oates "Family Man" and I hope that sticks in someone's head!

    Don't forget --

    Atlantic Starr (Always, Secret Lovers)

Ready for the World (Oh, Sheila; Let Me Love You Down)

    and Jermaine Stewart, anyone?

(We don't have to take our
    clothes off
to have a good time, no-no)

And wasn't The Jets big hit song something like:

    How did you know
    because I never told
    You found out
I got a crush on you

I take a perverse pleasure in seeing there are more responses to this thread than the Beach Boys thread.
