yes, they would prefer to be rid of his contract full stop, but as the loan to aris exemplifies, they are happy to get any salary relief they can find.

Folks - these threads are for discussing any new news about Freddy - it's not for random chat. OT posts removed. Thanks.

You missed about 20 or so. If you're going to remove OT posts then you should probably remove all of them.

There are only about 10 posts in this thread that are actually on topic. You should have either left all of the OT posts and given the warning, or taken all of them out and done the same.

There is news but there's no point in talking about it now really.

What news is that? Nothing's been posted in the news thread for several days. Care to enlighten us?

Then why do we need a thread? I thought the serious news thread was separate, it is so heavily moderated that it is orphaned back on pg. 4.

There is no news and there likely won't be any until the transfer window is near.

Which is two and a half months away.

I think of it more as four to five Adu threads away.

Has anything happened with him? Can someone offer up a brief synopsis? I remember Benfica didn't want him, Aris didn't really want him. It's a shame. He really did (does) have considerable talent. But all of these moves... it just isnt' good for a young player, or a young person in general in some ways. This kind of takes me back to Jovan Kirovski's situation (remember the old "Get a Job, Kirovski" threads), only it's worse now.

More like he got pushed off a cliff. He was still a kid when nearly all the decisions that set him on this path got made. I don't really blame him.

I have to admit, I haven't paid much attention lately to what's happening with Freddy so out of ignorance I am asking if he is playing anywhere right now? Thanks.

    No. He's not playing anywhere.

He was loaned to Aris in January on an 18 month loan from Benfica. This summer, Aris decided they didn't want him and tried to send him back to Benfica. Benfica didn't want him back and stuck Aris with his salary. Aris tried to force him to find another team. He didn't/wouldn't. He's now in limbo being paid by two teams that don't want him, while playing for neither of him.

He has another year left on his Benfica contract after this one. His actual market value appears to be a least a zero less than his current pay check, so nobody will pick him up on loan and he wont' rip up his contracxt.

    that about covers it.

There's no point in him tearing up his contract before January.

Thanks for this summary. What's the latest speculation? I assume his contract ends 18 months from last January so that puts him on a free transfer in July of 2011. Are people guess he gets out of the very end of it and rejoins MLS starting next April?

That would seem to be a logical move for him.

it seems to be the conclusion most of us are arriving at. While LA Galaxy were rumored to be after him, ive got a hunch itll be RBNY or DC United. I have absolutely nothing to re-enforce that hunch though, its just a feeling. DC is pretty high in the allocation order as is and stands the best chance of landing him, assuming they pull a move with Portland/Vancouver. Then again RBNY could throw players and draft picks at one of the expansion clubs too for that spot.

I wonder how far his game has deteiorated with all the inaction. I hope he gets to start for whatever team he ends up on.

I don't think MLS teams will be dying to get Adu for anything other than his commercial value.

Red Bull haven't been making many ridiculous moves lately.
