Dang. I just brought my rocket ship to the shop for a tune up. I vaguely recall that the Fed did something similar for the Honduras away match in 2013. I think we picked up the tickets the day before at the team hotel and they refunded the charges.

Telemundo showed the away section after at least two of the US goals, which I think were right in front of you.

    Match and trip reports, please.

In 2013, the Fed refunded only the shipping charge for the tickets.

About 20-30 of us met at Hyatt bar for pregame and wait for bus. Police escort like in El Salvador. I chose to ride with local family so that we could pregame outside the stadium (whereas the bus takes you stadium and they escort you directly into the stadium.).

Outside stadium was amazing. Knowing that they weren't going to sell beer inside; we knew we needed a big head start. Ha. Not exaggerating, probably hundreds of selfies/photos taken by locals of the 3 gringos standing around. Countless TV interviews as well. It was amazing. Tons of cold beer and food stalls all over the place.

Stadium, is outdated for sure but has charm. The stupid track makes for less than ideal viewing. All the fans were super friendly. They are very loud and they love their horns, makes it sound like bees swarming the entire time. Did I mention no beer. Uggh.

Supporters section: about 30. Half looked to have also been San Salvador game. Really strange (and lame) trend has been for AO to discourage singing/chanting due to fed/state dept's recommendation. Worried about creating tension with locals or something. I mean I guess I get it but it's so lame. Not an AO thing but they have biggest presence there and they organized all tickets and bus. Still not thrilled with their lack of organized events and communication around tix, bus, events. I get it though and they main peeps treat it more like a job then a party.

Turtle eggs. A must when at this stadium. Girls walk around with bag of eggs and make a bloody mary type of shot with the egg in it. It's supposed to be an aphrodisiac and the locals laughed for sure.

Beers: after asking at least a hundred locals and vendors, we found 1 dude that snuck 30 beers in for us with about 20 minutes left in the game. He wanted $300 for all, I think we gave him $150. But it was so damn worth it.

Another frustrating point: in both away games none of the players or coaches acknowledged the away fans. It's was noticeably obvious, a converted effort to not acknowledge. Had to been a fed/state dept recommendation to not "rile up the away fans". That's the only explanation I can think of. Very disappointing though and lacks respect for the traveling fans.

Post game. Most people hopped on bus, 3 of us went back to same spot outside stadium and drank and talked for another few hours. The locals were furious at their team and coach but still outrageously nice and friendly to us.

This is always a must attend event.

Wixson 7, I remember back in 2009 after the US played Guatemala in Guatemala city. All of the US fans went over to the US bus and Damarcus Beasley came out of the bus and took pictures with some of the US fans. But I did meet Landon Donovan, Oguchi Onyewu, Dempsey and took pictures with them at the team hotel. So I wonder if its more of a safety issue or they just dont want to be bothered after games.

I think it’s more of a safety thing. When the police say it’s time to get off the field, they don’t really have the choice to run over and celebrate the victory.

After this match, a few guys offered their applause in the direction of the US fans. And Aaronson and one member of the coaching staff did make a quick run to that corner (maybe others I missed).

In the past 10 years or so I don’t recall the players ever getting together as a group to acknowledge the fans. But this is also one of the very few away victories I’ve attended...

Yep, remember in Toronto when we lost vs Canada in NL, they issued an apology for not acknowledging. But I agree, I think they were told not to. Which is still lame.
