Erich Rutemöller, the Technical Director of the German Football Association, has joined the Team Melli coaching staff. He will be one of Daei's assistant coaches.

Rutemöller formerly managed FC Koln and Hansa Rostock.

Talks of Rutemöller teaming up with Daei have been floating for a few months now, and it seems as though he will finally be on the bench for Iran in the upcoming 4-team tournament in Oman (Dec. 16th- Iran, Oman, China, Ecuador).

I'm curious to see what sort of effect, if any, Rutemöller's appointment will have on our team. Daei seems like an extremely independent, stubborn guy, but he obviously has a lot of respect for Rutemöller, so we'll see what
    happens!

Hmm, so I suppose we're not adding anything relevant yet, I suppose I should get slightly relevant...

I'd just like to say... I'm happy that, even if AFC isn't the highest-quality confederation, at least it is very competitive from top to bottom. From the Big5 to the Uzbeks and North Koreans to the Indias and Thailands and all the way to the terrible bottom... there is a strong mix of talent through the spectrum which ensures our WCQs and Continental Cups aren't foregone conclusions.

Here is a pretty nice compilation of some of Mehdi Rahmati (Iran's goalkeeper)'s top plays in recent months:

Some of you may remember my high-praise for Rahmati. I really think he's an excellent keeper, and he has visibly improved steadily with every match.

I don't understand why everyone is debating the nickname that is used in this video. "The Octopus" is simply the title that the person who created this video decided to name Rahmati. Nothing "official" about it...

In any case, the video demonstrates just how talented our Mehdi Rahmati is in goal.

I believe from January 10-23 RoK NT will go through some team training... since its off season and i believe NT coach huh is trying to keep them in shape. but personal opinion... 23 days is like... too long it'll probably burden our clubs : - /

anyway... how is TM, saudi's winter schedule before feb?

Iran recently played Ecuador, China, and Galicia (a region in Spain). We used our "B" team in these matches, as all the invited players play in the Iranian league (no Nekounam, Shojaei, etc.).

Iran lost to Ecuador (0-1) in a match that Iran dominated.

Iran beat China (2-0) in an ugly match.

Iran lost to Galicia (2-3) in a very exciting match. Iran played extremely well in the 1st half, but was on the defense for the majority of the 2nd half.

We're testing new faces and young players and hoping find worthy talents. So far, so good, if you ask me. Of course it'd be nice to practice with our "A" team, but we're not playing on FIFA days, so this isn't such a bad idea...

ah.. good to know, although its not like rock solid.. i think korea secured friendly with Syria and Bahrain and they will have domestic k-leaguer training session for ... one month.. (god dayum) and will have 4 sparring match with random teams.

well lets both have a good match on feb there, I believe Korea line up will be pretty similar to Saudi Match but Korea is trying to find.. more new players also so we'll see how that works. I'll update once i know solid info during this winter training

I love Rahmati, I don't know if there is any Asian keeper that's better than him right now. BTW, our defense needs to smarten up.

Our defense is a serious concern right now.

As far as I'm concerned, Kaebi is safe at RB.

Hosseini must start, simply because he has so much experience with the team and he's our most consistent CB. Aghili missed the last few matches due to injury, and while he can occasionally perform miraculously, he is just too slow and inconsistent.

We've experimented with Ghorbani, who proved to be a clumsy CB that would be a huge liability were he to start. Bengar... Well... Bengar is just awful. We have better CBs in Iran.

There's little doubt in my mind that for the upcoming important matches, Daei will replace Ghorbani with Aghili and go back to the original Hosseini-Aghili duo.

We've experimented with Ashjari at LB, and while he's ok, Daei will definitely still use S.Zare in the vital matches.

just saw news on your victory, grats on 6-0 against singapore. Im not really sure who'll make out from winter training camp, but nevertheless, it seems like Korea can bring decent squad to Tehran on february. Looking forward to that match guys so how is TM doing?

Team Melli is looking good. Our team has progressively improved, but our foreign-based stars (Nekounam, Shojaei, Mahdavikia, Hashemian, Zandi, Madanchi) have not been present.

It is very likely that our coach will field a line-up against S.Korea that will surprise many people. While I'm sure Nekounam will start, I don't think any other foreign-based stars, including Shojaei, will start. The fact is that our team has developed excellent chemistry, and it would be amateur to simply insert big names that have little experience and no chemistry with the current formation.

    I expect this line-up:

    -----------------Rahmati-----------------------
    -Kaebi----Hosseini---Aghili-----Ashjari-------
    ----------------Nekounam----------------------
    -----Gholamnejad-------Khalatbari/Shojaei---
    ------------------Bagheri------------------------
    ------------Borhani-----Salehi------------------

    Not very familiar, eh? :p

I have to agree. The big names simply arent all that familiar with the current team's chemistry and its best if we just field local IPL players, with the exception of Nekounam, as stated.
