I can't really complain after the non-red against Pique in the last match though.
This time we get one, we lose one.

Well gents it was a mediocre run but really this team is light years away from competing with the big boys. They did what I had predicted make the KO and if they were lucky make the QF's and lose. Need new blood and a different approach, don't know if Hierro is the guy to get it done but we'll find out once Euro qualifiers start and the old guys announce their retirements or don't get the call up for the Euros. Aupa Espanha y La Furia Roja!!

this was a rematch of Iran vs spain, except Iran was slightly better at shutting out spain (spain had more/better chances against russia) and also slightly offensively better against spain. only difference was that diego costa won the Iran game with a fluke goal+Iran missed a 100% chance, while spain gifted russia a penalty and also got unlucky to not put a single chance in. also the VAR call that was obviously gonna be pro-host that denied spain a legitimate penalty to win it. i dont recall russia creating a single solitary good chance in 120 minutes. had they created 1-2 chances and limited spain a bit more (they did limit spains chances, but they also needed luck to not allow a single one of the few dangerous spanish shots to go in which is luck), they would have deserved this draw. but as it stands they simply got lucky. they will be exposed against a croatian side that will put the ball in the back of the net. i would have liked to see a spain brazil final but oh well.

For the players that we have, it wasn't mediocre, it was crap.

We played like crap, I haven't seen anybody with a good game. Maybe Rodrigo and Aspas somewhat. But if we played with Kepa and Azpi instead of De Gea and Pique, we would probably be through.

Pique was good for the national team prior to this tournament but he was absolutely terrible here. Ramos wasn't great but other than his mistake against Morocco, he did ok. De Gea doesn't have what it takes to play for Spain, 1 save through 4 games...

Sad to see Iniesta last games for the national team but age is equal to all.

Anyway, I suppose I can try to enjoy the rest of the games in the WC but feel pretty empty right now. We'll see everyone in the fall when club football begins again.

You read their tweets and you wonder on what planet do these guys live on?? The entire team except for a few players played like shite the entire tournament. Was listening to the various Spanish stations, SER, Marca and COPE and they ripped these guys a new asshole big time. A disgrace and from the looks of it, Hierro will be gone soon and a new NT coach will be named. I personally would jettison the following players tomorrow upon arrival at Barajas: Iniesta, Ramos, Silva, DeGea (number 2 keeper on a good day), Pique, Reina, Monreal, and would put the following players on notice: Alba, Busquets. Aupa Espanha y La Furia Roja!
