Germany 2006: In which Arena and City would you like to see your team starting the tournament and why?
Good question. For historical reasons stemming from post-WWII, I'd like to see the US team in the South (Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern, Frankfurt). Because Nuremberg and Stuttgart have running tracks, and the refurbished Betze and the new Munich and Frankfurt stadiums won't, I'd vote for Munich, Kaiserslautern and Frankfurt in that order for the three first-round games. Munich is a great city with lots to do and lots of beer to drink. Then on to Kaiserslautern as a homage to the large US military force in the area (with a side trip to the Palatinate wine-growing areas and to Frankenstein, just because its Frankenstein). Finish the first round in Frankfurt; big city, good place to catch a flight home or, hopefully, to the site of the US's Round of 16 game.
Perfect choice, Wolfsburgh. Fits for the us-Team. I think Dortmund and Westfalenstadion would fit for England. Big capacity, great atmosphere, plenty of night-life to choose in the Ruhr-Area. Arena auf Schalke is best for the Turks. A lot of Turks living in and around the town (more than in Ankara i guess). Sweden should play in Leipzig (six swedish players for Hansa Rostock). Italy, Portugal and Spain: Short journey to München, Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern and Nürnberg. France could play in Köln (only three hours from Paris). Berlin is a good choice for the african teams because many africans live in Berlin. Brazil and Argentina: Köln or Berlin. Japan should play in Frankfurt or Köln (In Düsseldorf near Köln is the biggest japanese population in Europe. Frankfurt fits because of the easy journey from Frankfurt-Airport and many Japanese are working there). Russia in Leipzig, east-germany. Holland in Dortmund or Schalke (near the dutch border). For Germany I think Hamburg would fit perfectly. Big and beautiful city, very nice stadium.
