Jona, Gio, Vela should have stayed in Europe until after this world cup. The decided to choose money and I dont blame them for that. But their level droped . imagine Vela at the level he was 2014 and Gio. And Jona that one year he was a starter at Villarreal. Now lets see how the next cycle goes . and what coach we get.
They went swinging and had heart; but this is our level. Heart's muscle can only pump as much as the muscle allows it.
The thing is you don't need world class players to reach top eight, you can make up for the difference in other factors, as I hoped was my point by mentioning the aforementioned teams. I would agree if we were talking about later instances.
Ochoa hasn't made it at a bigger team throughout his career Has looked like a really accomplished shot stopper at both the 2014 and 2018 World Cups
Vela dropped level because he had ongoing issues with his knee around 2014. He had a horrible season with la real before going to MLS
Jona was our best player at the Confeds around this time last year. He was probably rusty due to not playing all tournament and then being thrown out there with no rhythm. He was still better than useless Guardado.
He did great but his level is not where it was. After 60min he was done running . his shots were a tad bit off too. But I like how hard he was trying . vela, salcedo and ochoa played their hearts out. Lozano unfortunately we on a island today having to go against 3. Tactical change was needed.
Don’t forget Efrain Alvarez. I know @Centauro del Norte was big on this kid. He seems legit. The FMF should ensure that he commits to Mexico.
Somehow, I'm not crushed like I was 4 years ago with the Netherlands game. That hurt. I'm disappointed, of course, but I still enjoyed the ride despite the ups and major downs.
