This is purely politics and I don't like getting into it but trying to compare the current US administration to Mussolini and that Argentinian Dictator (idk his name) is insanely idiotical and completely out of reality and is just pure ragebait and lazy journalism
Its a stretch, but when Argentina was selected as host it was way before the violent dictatorship commenced. So, FIFA could point to their bad luck and say (some BS) things like "we don't mix politics and the sport." This time no such argument exists because it was FIFA themselves that decided that US 2025 politics should be mixed in with this World Cup. And when I say "mixed" I don't mean in the way that pepperoni is thrown on top of a pizza. I mean, integrated like the flour in the pizza. There's no taking it off if you don't like it and still want to eat pizza.
I guess it could sell a lot of tickets and be profitable but review poorly due to flat atmospheres and deflate enthusiasm for the game. Like a Marvel movie that pre-sells well but no one likes.
Some news on the social media affirm there's been 25,000 cancellations to protest political situation. I searched myself, ni official confirmation from FIFA. I call this news as rumors.
The prices are slowly dropping on a weekly basis specifically the 3 group games for germany. Ecuador vs Germany was over $1k before the holidays and now $650, i can see prices across the board dropping as things get closer which is a good thing for fans who want to go.

Infantino defends 2026 ticket pricing saying many will be touted on resale platforms - Inside World Football
Kind of interesting article in the Athletic and NY Times about $300 parking in LA. It is interesting that FIFA block so much more of the regular parking (say, parking for an NFL game) near the stadium. I think for hospitality. You make a profit off this, then elevate the price for the remaining parking as there is less supply. I wonder if the NFL teams will try this, or if it is not something you can do to local fans.
The Swiss media is reporting that the Swiss FA has not been able to sell out its ticket allocation of 5,400 for the 2026 World Cup. And in our (Switzerland’s) case it’s definitely not a question of affordability.
Indonesia could combine with them...they've expressed interest in hosting at least, even if they might not be able to provide the infrastructure in the near future, anyways.
The Iranian diaspora is bigger than you think, and they are veeeeeery passionate about their team. I have been to an Iranian match in the last three WCs and have met Iranians from: South Africa Japan All over Europe Bahrain Qatar Peru Canada All over America, but especially California And of course form Iran itself. Know what unites them all, regardless of politics, religion, etc,...? The Iranian soccer team. How easy will it be for those outside North America to get here...no clue. But there are big enough numbers in the US/Canada to fill out their portion of these stadiums, especially the games in LA. And it is only a two hour flight to Seattle from Cali. P.S. They are one of the most welcoming group of fans you can hang out with, highly recommended. P.S.S. Sorry this wasn't a rant, at least I don't feel like it qualified, so here you go: ******** FIFA and their shitty ticketing system geared to touts and gougers!!!
Do the Swiss usually sellout their ticket allotments quickly in previous World Cups? Euros I imagine they do due to proximity and little travel to most places.
Yeah that’s doesn’t exactly surprise me? Been in five straight WC before this one and the group stage is two unattractive teams in Canada/Qatar and then likely Italy who Swiss have played in last two Euros. I wouldn’t want to fly across the ocean for that either…
I'm more than aware of diaspora as I hinted in my original comment, but they're really going to have to turn up (and perhaps they will). Still seems a bit of a political spectacle though to not just assign them to the Canada games in that group.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/70...da-disabled-spots/?source=user_shared_article Thank you for creating this rant thread, @wixson7. Parking prices up, including for the handicapped. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/70...da-disabled-spots/?source=user_shared_article
Though....they didn't 'hike' prices, this has always been their prices since they launched the parking options many months ago. $90-$250-ish has been their price from the get go. Yes, a total ripoff but this isn't recent news, and honestly NFL parking is pretty outrageous as well. But I guess the "FIFA hates handicapped people" headline probably gets more clicks.
That really depends on the host. The answer is no for Qatar, and I think also no for Russia. The last time the World Cup had a politically non-controversial host for the international traveler (Brazil), the Swiss FA did sell out its allocation. Switzerland is #1 in average wealth and #7 in median wealth per capita.
