Berlin – Germany’s leading designers are revolting against the logo for the WC 2006. Eleven designer offices work together and want to present ideas for a new logo in the middle of March in Berlin. According to the designers the WC Organising Committee scored an own goal with their logo that was presented in the Arena AufSchalke in November 2002. “Three years ridiculing before the WC are no good sign. Nobody can stand that. We don’t want a silly, but a nice WC. From the beginning on”, criticised Professor Klaus Hesse. The official logo was ridiculed right after the presentation. ‘Spiegel’ called it infantile, the designer magazine ‘Form’ called it “designed disaster” and Brazil’s biggest newspaper ‘O Globo’ said “the little faces look like the most popular version of XTC pills”. [a German late night show also called it “Smarties on XTC” (in case you don’t know Smarties: kind of M&M)] Fons Hickmann, head of “Studio Fons Hickmann m23” in Berlin furthermore is convinced: “The economic crisis may not be followed by a cultural crisis. 2006 all eyes are directed on Germany. We want to show where German design really stands in international comparison. We want to go new ways to amaze fans in the whole world”. Offices from Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg, Leipzig and Stuttgart took part in the competition that was supported by the “Art Directors Club for Germany” (ADC). There are hardly any possibilities to be successful though. The press office of the WC organising committee told that there is no chance for a new logo.
In case you haven't seen it this is the logo. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/fifa/06loc/gen/en/emblem.gif
I still laughat the germans whenever i come across this vile logo. Come on germany get your act together.
Yeesh, that's pretty bad. It's like the whole country got sent Ralphie's pink bunny suit by their dotty old maid aunt.
Cultural Crisis? It may be a stupid logo, but I think some of these designers are overestimating their importance just a tad.
If that was the best they had, I wonder what was worse than that...a 0 and a 6 on either side of a German bratwurst.
Re: Re: WC 2006 Logo Quarrel No, actually in Germany and Europe they are not. In Europe there is a candy similar to M&M's that's called smarties made by Nestle. http://www.nestle.de/push/online/markenwelt/de/tmpl/fs_markenwelt.tmpl?area=produkte&flash=1
what are you laughing about???? the logo is result of a english/german co production.....its shyte and shame for germany, what everybody knows, has the most talented graphic designers.......as far as i know there are alot of designers against this logo and will try to overturn the decission to get rid of it, on the other hand, i would think that the fifa has a contract with the design agency that produced this shyte logo.....so i would think, we have to deal with that thing
What I still don't get is why they ripped off the K/J 2002 logo at the bottom? Someone said they "had" to put it in there. Why?
The only reason I can think of is that, since it's a stylized version of the cup, it's the new logo for the competition (kinda like the Olympic rings). The thing about that logo, to me, is that it doesn't really seem very "German." There's no local flavor. Hell, it took me about 10 times before I noticed the German flag in the logo, it's so subdued. This logo bites.
If my daughter sees it, she'll have nightmares. Will German's be more embarassed of the logo or the Holocaust now?
That is a ************y logo if I've ever seen one. Let's hope they come up with something else---Hannover already has to deal with something similar on its jerseys.
