For all the love for Jackson some Rapids fans have shown, talking about how he's our next big thing, he's now been responsible for two game winning goals against us while scoring one goal...
Howard looked disoriented on the 2nd one. Really pathetic and hard to watch. He was a great GK at one time.
Acosta's goal was the only shot on frame for the Rapids. DC could have played without a keeper and we still would have lost.
With the missed PK and OG, the Rapids once again snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Blecccccch! I sure do miss watching soccer.
Not sure anybody did well in that match. Roo scored a nice goal but was invisible for long stretches. Acosta scored a great goal but missed a PK. Howard made some good stops but got nutmegged. Ref did some good work but completely mishandled the end of the match and might have been duped on the PK (think there was some contact but Castillo definitely embellished). Hudson had people in the wrong spots again. Fleming was solid on play-by-play as usual.
Who was worse, the Rapids or the ref? Both were awful. And it was a fair result. DC was much better. Will the Rapids ever have a short pass play in the box? DC had multiple chances today. But that’s good soccer, which we never show.
Scary thought: what if DC really had done this and had Mattocks (with his 8 season goals) in the lineup all match as the eleventh player?
1) HudsonOut 2) Get rid of Wilson, Smith, Wynne, Boateng, Colvey, Boli, and Macbean. Unless Gashi turns it on in the last half of the season, him too. 3) Play the youth, starting now. 4) Identify 5 in-their-prime forwards and #10s, whether in MLS or elsewhere, and break the bank to get 2 forwards and one #10. 5) Force Howard to retire. 6) Play the players in their correct positions, damnit. (See my earlier post).
Well, at least we addressed that nagging issue of momentary “positive momentum.” Now we’re all back in a familiar position of comfort. Well placed, glass half empty pessimism.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present the 2018 Rapids Shitshow Quote of the Year! (The above) Well done, Jason! (Sadly, that quote also could’ve applied after the game against an expansion USL club... and maybe others).
Will post more thoughts tomorrow, but that game sucked to be in person. Really expensive seats that were not nearly as good as our seats in 108. Food was worse than the dick. No tailgate and it was fricken hot. And we lost due to what appeared to be bad goalkeeping. Those around were mocking us for having Howard.
Again, it’s not so much that he didn’t save it, it’s that once again, he didn’t move. He has to lead the league in goals against without moving a muscle. I think he still knows positioning—hence some outstanding saves. But his reactions have been lost. We all get old.
Well, that will teach me for defending Howard. I will note Smith was again horrendous on that goal. He's getting good at holding his head in his hand after seeing the ball hit the back of the net. Yet he's the Rapids' ironman (has played every league minute). I think they have to keep trying the back four. But geez Hudson, it's okay to sit Wilson, or Smith, or both!
I had to turn it off and speed through later. Price's yellow card every game is really something. At times he's good so we miss him during the suspensions.
