In that same chat, Landon sounded like he really has little desire to move back to Europe at this time...he implied that family (and girlfriend) matters have more weight in his decision (which I respect).
I agree SJfuture. Lalas is bumbling embarrassment. He doesn't give the impression of giving a rat's ass about the Earthquakes future. -KMJvet
Funny guy. Yeah.....well, like I said.....it's like the guy knows something we don't and he sure doesn't act like a guy who's job is on the line. Alexi apologists enter now.
Hmm, while I admire Landon's quick quips and wit, do you think Waibel was talking about guys like LD in this quote? "I think guys are still admiring their rings from last year," Waibel said. "It's time to realize it says 2003, not 2004 (on those rings). We need to quit thinking we're champions. We're not. We are in fifth place. It's time to wake up. Everyone makes excuses every game." -Taken for Schrader article 7/27/04 Not to take away from the magic of last year. However, if we want a repeat, we need to as Waibs put it, "wake up".
I kind of doubt it. Please don't rain on our parade. It was just a come-back to a snotty L.A. fan. Nothing more, nothing less.
Frigging hysterical. Wow, what a bunch of morons posting on the Gals board. I guess that goes with the territory.
Are you sure he's joking? Considering the options that have been coming up outside the city of San Jose, this might be an accurate statement. I'm no apologist. I think he's made some mistakes (Q comes to mind), but I think he's doing all that he can with the stadium issue. Remember folks the bottom line is that this is AEG's decision, not Alexi's . Alexi's in the unfortunate position of being low enough on the AEG food chain for us to reach. We need to reach higher.
Definitely not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I didn't actually even see that the guy was from L.A. That being said, I still hope the Quakes aren't caught up on last year. However, it would take a lot for Craigy to say that kind of thing.
Read it again carefully.....it's a joke, you don't need a to know it's a joke.....unless of course your saying he's rivaling Yogi Berra with his Alexiisms.
You don't understand this board, then. Because any of us who don't think Lalas should be drawn and quartered as pre-game entertainment are "Alexi apologists." I wouldn't have answered the question in Alexi's manner, but, hey, he's a smart-ass and my guess is that question is starting to wear pretty thin right about now. And it was kind of a lame question to begin with. I think that if there was "any good news" about a stadium, that "news" would be "publicized."
I understand this board perfectly. I'm just a spit into the wind kind of Guy. but to get back on topic... He lobbed it up to LD, and he got it spiked down his pie hole. Even some of his fellow fans said he asked for it.
But that was a very smart remark from London. I loved it. I just thought it was insulting, but I would have never thought of making a comeback like that. I could not believe that guy said it. I told myself, I bet it is from a Galaxy Player lol.
Well, I like Craig and I think he is a really nice guy. He certainly tries as hard as anyone else on the pitch....BUT.....as I sit and watch the games in slo-mo-TiVo, I seem to frequently see the Quakes victimized this year by someone chasing the ball instead of properly marking up and/or letting someone slip in behind them when they are too slow-footed on the offsides trap. More often than any other this season, that has been Craig Waibel. Running a close second in the "burned by speed" department is Jeff Agoos but I am a bit more forgiving where Jeff is concerned because he does bring so much else to that back line that NO ONE else has yet proven they can consistently provide. Yes....Quakes, please wake up and start playing your beautiful brand of one-touch, passing soccer and regain your winning ways. I am already on record in another thread as saying that I believe this team will show their championship pedigree in another form this season--by managing to qualify for the postseason in as high a seed as they are able and they will be hot during the stretch run so they enter the playoffs on a roll. If there is any time I most want to see this team playing superior soccer, it's the postseason. All they have to do is just get there--given the wonderful MLS schedule, such as it is. Maybe some day, we'll have enough franchises to play a single table like the rest of the world. Then, every game will truly matter and such "wake up" comments will carry more weight. Go Quakes!!!**
The man can't even do elementary math?! And he's the GM of our team?! *keeps mouth shut* .... *trys sooo incredibly hard not to say anything more*
It was a joke. Look at the response. Dissect it with me here. "There is about a 34 percent chance..." ooh, a specific number, but 34% seems kind of random. Clue #1 that this is not a serious response. "...that in the future, there may or may not be a stadium in San Jose." I highlighted the important part. He was not saying anything specific at all. This, combined with the specific number (34%), means, it's a joke, lighten up people. I have not seen the whole chat -- maybe he already got asked that question twenty times in the chat and was tired of it? Maybe he's tired of being asked this question by fans every time he goes outside his door? The worst we can say is that it's a flip answer to a serious question, but everyone who has been paying attention already knows his real answer to this question -- he is doing everything he can to help get a stadium in this area, but he's not the man with the big bags of money, so it's not his decision. I can't believe I'm turning into an Alexi apologist.
And I was joking for the most part too. I know it was a joke. But isn't there a 100% chance that there may or may not be a stadium.... The man needs a better sense of humor though. That I'm serious about.
Oh well, if there are three options at this time: San Jose Fairgrounds, Santa Clara Mission College, and San Francisco - it is about 33.3% possibility that the stadium will be built in San Jose (as opposed to Santa Clara, or San Francisco). Makes some sense.
Having met and talked to the big A (and to someone who's 5'4", he's the Big A), my sense is that he has the team's best interests at heart but he's in way over his head, as evidenced by his behavior to date. Look at it this way--does Alexi want a post-pro career in professional soccer...or does he want to be selling insurance in Manteca? Not that there's anything wrong with selling insurance, but if he makes a huge hash of this job, it's not going to help his future job prospects. Whereas he could, if he tap dances fast enough, become a very hot commodity. I don't believe the conspiracy theories--he's not going to take the fall for MLS. You wouldn't do it for your employer either. I also don't believe MLS put him in the job so that he could fail, because that makes no sense as a business decision for them.
Umm.... Alexi dear, there is 100% chance that the stadium will or will not be a stadium in San Jose. With certainty, bet the house on this one, the stadium will be in San Jose or it won't. So his comment makes no sense. Except for the fact that it was meant to be a joke....
