I figured I'd start a thread for those of us far away from Philly. (Or just in a galaxy far, far away) I'll be watching first kick from my sister-in-law's couch in Connecticut. Who else is well outside the Philly geography, but loving the Union!
I want to make a new thread but I can't until I post more, so I guess I should just put this here, but for Road games, I want to try to find a bar in Wildwood, NJ that will put the games on. I'll concede for only matches that don't conflict with Phillies games too. I'm a Philly guy, but I spend my weekends down there, and would love to be able to go out somewhere for matches. I'd even be willing to talk to some of the bars to find out, but I'd need to see what the interest is for it to be worth their while I guess.
I am old and haven't been to Wildwood in ages but I know back in my heyday I watched CL matches at that Irish bar in Wildwood (I can't remember the name though but I am sure it's still there. Has to be.) They were always cool about putting it on for me.
Mmmmmm, that is the last of the bars up there anymore. Rest are condos now.... Owen's is the place on 17th, great and pretty damn cheap bar fare.
great to see that the shore-crowd (past and present) is in to this. I used to drive past Kelley's every night (worked on Mariner's Landing for five years and used to party at one of the boarding houses with a bunch of Czechs after close every night at one of the boarding-house type places on Montgomery), but I've never been in there. Owens is a good call, I'll have to stop in to see if they have LiveWell and/or FSC. Might as well ask them about the World Cup while I'm in there, too. As for Number One, I've never really been a huge fan of it in there, and I'm not picky when it comes to drinks, but I've always felt that a Tully Nut was a mixture of grain alcohol, motor oil, and dirty water. Since I'm on the subject, here's the full bar roster down there now. Anglesea Pub is still there, Flip Flops (formerly The Beach House, formerly Jimmy's) is the opposite of where Moore's used to be, Westy's is still there across the street. The next block down is Ecco's, across the street where Shady O's was is just an empty lot that supposedly belongs to the people who owned The Poplar (which is now a pizza place and indie-beer-bar called Good Night Irene's). Keenan's is a block-long complex now, they bought out what used to be Second Street Annies. Owens is on 17th. What used to be Tony's just opened up under new ownership and is called O'Boyles. I don't really do much drinking further south than that, but there's Tucker's Pub up by the Boardwalk, the Firehouse Tavern is still there, The Wharf is still there, a place called The Deck opened at Pacific and Oak and is pretty nice.
Never had a Tullynut myself ... blueballs maybe . I've only ever gone to #1 to watch the Eagles game when I'm down there for Irish Weekend. Seems to be a large enough crowd to enjoy watching the game, but not too large to be annoying. Once the game is over, we head elsewhere.
