The problem with this poll is that is doesn't take into account that the people who watch FOX News are already stupid. Therefore more easily misled.

I know from experience, my laid off, coal miner uncle in WV watches Fox News all day. I love the man to death, but he was stupid long before Fox News came along. My drinking buddies, on the other hand, are all attorneys who went to Harvard or Georgetown and listen to NPR. Go figure.

Class-ism alive and well. I'm sure your attorney friends are better people too. Guess who i'd rather have a drink with?

[SARCASM\]I'm sure my uncles Woddy and Hoover would love to have a drink with someone like you. [/SARCASM]

Woody and Hoover never made it past the 7th grade. My point is that people who watch FOX News were stupid to begin with Fox didn't make them stupid it just fed on it.

I'll help you out since you're trying hard not to come right out & say it:

    conservate = stupid
    liberal = enlightened

Is it in any way ironic that you misspelled conservative?

BTW, my father is rather conservative and he's one of the smartest people I know. He also doesn't watch Fox News Channel.

I'm glad you finally admitted it.

I do know "stupid" lawyers too, but they don't always swallow what Fox feeds them either.

Have you ever attempted to watch the Fox morning show? It's trite, and full of rhetoric. Why would someone who can think for themselves watch that?

I'm not well-acquainted with Richth76, but I frankly think he is in a better position than you to opine on the intelligence or lack of intelligence of his family and friends, and is probably able of commenting singly on that issue, without conflating it with their political predilections.

It has always been a favourite political past-time to criticize Democrats, liberals, etc., as elitist intellectuals. However, I for one have no intention of ever apologizing for having developed the level of intellect I possess (note, I am not actually stating what that level is), and find it unfathomable that intellect should not be considered one of the most important, if not the most important, qualification of a candidate for office. Anyone who tries to ridicule a candidate based upon his acumen is no better than the failing bully on the playground that lashes out at his academic betters out of his own insecurity.

Exactly. I was raised by my father to go to school and learn and never stop learning for this reason. I was the first in my dad's family to go to College, grad school, and the first to visit europe without a gun in my hand. And yes, I'm liberal....no apologies for that.

Nah - that show stinks. But it's not much worse than the stinky Big 3 morning shows.

Let me ask you something. If CNN is supposed to be "the grown-ups' cable news network" then why did I see a headline last night calling Schwarzenegger the "Grope-inator"? I mean the Calif. election is a farce but I can't imagine ABC, NBC or CBS using a silly graphic like that. I guess CNN's trying to outdo Fox. CNN's traditionally has been too newsy to try to be funny. Lower ratings will do that.

Of course, CNN has for a while now stooped to fox's level with the silly graphics, and trying to be funny. I like "too newsy", I miss the old CNN. Hopefully Al Gore's buyout of Newsworld International will give me something other than Frontline and the Daily Show worth watching.

Can a news network be too newsy? That's like complaining that ESPN shows too many live sports.

Anyway, I for one will not agree with such a statement, even tho I'm liberal. There are numerous intelligent conservatives out there, even if I disagree with their conclusions.

This can be seen by any political commentator who can defend the Bush administration. It doesn't take much brainpower to criticize the admin (just a *#*#*#*#*#*#*#*# detector) - but it sure must take a lot of brainpower to make administration actions seem palatable. Of course, I think that if these talking heads were just slightly smarter, they'd kinda trail away and talk some nonsense and wait for a Republican administration worth defending.

But - I will question the intellect and culture of anyone who watches FOX news for anything but JLo or Britney stories. Intellectually, you are better off watching paint dry.

Wait, wait. A morning show that's trite? Stop the presses. And what exactly is a show that isn't "full of rhetoric"? Is it just music with a series of colors flashing on the screen? Okay, so there's Teletubbies, but other than that, you're going to run into rhetoric.

First, whoever told you CNN was for grownups was selling you a line. It's not entirely infantile like Fox, but it's still pretty much fluff most of the time. Is Crossfire (with Carville and Carlson) on CNN? I flicked by that tonight, and it was like watching Fox. Everybody screaming at each other, especially Carville with the horrible screeching raspy twang, and Tucker with the snotty mock sincerity. God.

Anyone could construct a poll where Fox viewers appeared the most knowledgeable, at least in comparison with other major networks.

Easily. It depends entirely on which questions are asked.

Yea, if the questions were all about NASCAR, I bet the Fox viewers would run circles around those NPR geeks.

98% of NPR listeners know who PDQ Bach is. That's equally disturbing.

    Huh? Two facts for you:

    1. Botulinum bacteria (the most poisonous substance known to man) was discovered in Iraq by U.S. arms inspectors. One soup can full of pure Botox can kill millions of people. It's a weapon of Mass Destruction. If you watched Fox News you would have known this fact.

    2. Osama Bin Laden, mastermind of Al Qaeda, was indicted in 1998. The indictment mentioned his ties to Iraq. If you watched Fox News you would have known this fact.

Obviously, Fox watchers are more keen on these facts because their news source does not "scrub" the news for them, ala NY Times and CNN.

You have to separate certain things when analyzing Fox News. Their Washington bureau with Brit Hume, etc. is actually very good. Yes, it's interests/news judgment are slanted to the right, but no more so than CNN's are slanted in the opposite direction.

The things that bother me about Fox is its preocuupation with lowest common denominator disasters for sheer ratings. I once saw them cover a water main explosion in Atlanta, just because it made good pictures. It had no bearing on my life, and I live less than an hour from Atlanta. It was ridiculous.

Re: Re: Watching Fox News makes you stupid

Sorry, you don't get to go any further; you've exemplified Fox News' mis-education of you, above, perfectly...thanks.

    SYLLABICATION: sub·stance
    PRONUNCIATION: sbstns
NOUN: 1a. That which has mass and occupies space; matter. b. A material of a particular kind or constitution.

Given an authentic definition of "substance" and the opportunity before you might respond to access sources other than Fox News, would you care to revise your quote, above?

Because those of us who do things other than watch Fox News for anything other than sad shakes of our head know that clostridium botulinum is nowhere NEAR the most poisonous substance known to man.

    Come on
