Malen was injured during the Germany game, didn’t even travel to Munich. It was a thigh injury and no timetable was reported although the FotMob app I use is currently stating he’s returning end April No idea if that’s accurate, if so, that’d be horrible! He was in such a great form, and is the only natural RW for Oranje at the moment. Anyway, I digressed (as this is a thread for Defenders) Looks like Maatsen had a solid game for BVB. He probably won’t go to Euro, but definitely a ready-replacement for Blind.
Watched the game. It was not easy for maatsen . While he did close sane and made him drift sideways . Having kimmch overlapping also and adeyemi not all the time tracking back, maatsen often found him self having to mark both and which led to alot of dangerous crosses from his side. Few interventions going forward as defensively like I said he had to be descive with sane and kimmch both on his side. Links ups was good as usually and drifted in the midfield when needed. Pity, has been overlooked to blind who has nothing to offer going into future. De ligt was solid but couldnt close adeyemi on the goal as adeyemi was just too quick.
Maatsen had one long run in second half and shot that was wide of target, but certainly showed tremendous speed and athleticism that certainly would help Oranje. Defensively he was under duress with not much coverage in front him, but he managed in a high level match so well done to him. De Ligt solid Performance, and yes the speedster Adeyemi scored after a poor turnover by Bayern in Midfield, but the backup Bayern Keeper who’s name escapes me was extremely poor allowing the ball to get through a weak hand was just pathetic. De Ligt not at fault here, and didn’t allow Adeyemi to cut inside, but certainly he’s not outrunning the German.
100186 https://www.vi.nl/nieuws/guardiola-deelt-eerste-inschatting-over-blessure-ake Halfway through the first half, disaster struck for Aké. The Dutch international suddenly sat down without an opponent nearby, which is never a good sign. Guardiola did not hesitate for a moment and immediately substituted Aké, who now reports to the City infirmary where defensive colleagues John Stones and Kyle Walker have already reserved a bed. "John will be back soon, but for Kyle and Nathan it will take longer," Guardiola begins in conversation with Sky Sports, implying that it could look bad for Aké. In any case, the Spaniard was pleased with substitute Rico Lewis. "He played exceptionally and we have other guys as well. We're going to do it with those guys.' If Aké is actually out for a long time, Ronald Koeman may have a problem. Quilindschy Hartman also left the game on Sunday with an injury. Nothing is yet known about the seriousness of the injury of the Feyenoord left back, although Arne Slot is 'holding his breath'.
Nu zit Hato wants to go to the EURO24. Sorry dude, but the way you on a one on one battle get beaten is so below international standards that even Blind is an upgrade in that respect. 100291 Hato might be dreaming about his hype getting him in, but the way you get beaten by the likes of van Bommel shows your place is far down the line. The one who really deserves to be called up in case it's needed is Beelen. Take a look, Hato, how a real defender locks out a top striker like Lukaku and learn.

First Oranje player with a trophy this season: Jeremie Frimpong (Leverkusen) Woohoo! PSV are at the door step... good news for the Oranje hopefuls like Veerman and Schouten.
Big difference tatical compared to last week where he was drifting to midfield and Dortmund going back 3 in between. More straight forward this week with Ryerson and Maatsen in traditional LB role and it paid off good. I hope Dortmund coach has noted this down.
Nice goal. Lets hope Koeman selects him for our last 2 friendlies https://youtube.com/shorts/8XCUk-2TOnA?si=KJ6bpNL7OfuFAvXM
101551 Sorry, but we have no friendlies for trying out players. Those friendlies are after the list of players has been submitted. So Koeman selects and can play him in the friendlies or he doesnot select him. That's the fecking imbecility of Koeman to use/waste Blind and de Roon spots in the last two Orange Squad matches. These were the last 2 matches unproven players could be tried.
Xavi Simons debuted in Oranje during the World Cup final (IIRC he subbed in v. the USA team in the knockout stage). Obviously he's an exceptional talent, and all that. But that's a precedent of a player not tested previous to a major tournament. If I were Maatsen, that would be the mentality that I would have -- play my tail off, as hard as I could be, for the remainder of the season, and who knows maybe ultimately sneak in Oranje squad this summer!!
De Ligt joining Maatsen as Oranje representatives in the UCL semi final. Man City v. Real Madrid match is in OT as I am typing… Ake is glued to the bench (not fully fit yet?)
Watched bayern vs Arsenal. De ligt was composed and looked dangerous on set pieces. Bayern was a better team of the day. The lack of positional players again come down to haunt them. Simply not there yet. Dier and de ligt combo was formidable
More Oranje defenders winning the league trophy… Dumfries and De Vrij (Inter) Add Klaassen, too, though he hasn’t played much, if at all.
De Ligt comes off injured at half. No idea how serious it may be, but the Champions League Semii-Final vs Real Madrid is this week so perhaps he was taken off as a precaution. De Ligt has played very well since Tuchel figured out he’s simply better than the error prone Upamecano and Kim so this would be a tough blow if it’s a serious injury for the player, Bayern, and Oranje.
