I think the discussion was about LBs. Geetruda is a RB, correct?

  3. Oh, my bad. I thought we were discussing backs in general.

Bakker is seeking an exit from PSG reportedly. He doesn't see his future there, which I can totally see. He almost made it to the first-choice under Tuchel, but with Pochettinho, Bakker is now a third or fourth option down. It would be interesting to see where he heads out. LB & RB are never a priority for many clubs in the transfer market, unless you're top 4 or 5 in the position. So probably he will end up in some mid-table clubs... in England, France or Germany. He will then have to rebuild his career from there on. Can't see him returning to Eredivisie.

  5. It's because of Lewandowski absence, otherwise the PSG defense would have been burned to the ground in the first half.

Ajax would have put 10 in the back of the net. Worst defending I've seen from a top Euro club all season.

  7. Well, in the Roma return match Rick Karsdorp might be lined up after his suspension for the Amsterdam match.
Gonna be interesting to see how he fares.

Feyenoord players always quit against Ajax. Announcers on our feed said he is injured again.

Kevin Diks, vitesse, feyenoord now on in Denmark with AGF on loan from Fiorentina will have his contract expiring at the end of this season. Fiorentina signed him on a 5 year deal back in 2015/2016 season when he was still 18 and apart from 5' that he clocked as a sub for them in serie A, he has mostly seen himself going out on loan through out his contract. Foirentina have confirmed they wont be renewing his contract in the summer and will be a free agent.

Still 24 and if I remember correctly he had a good stint at feyenoord on loan in the 2017 season winning the KNVB cup with them and also featured in the CL group stage around that same season. He looked like a good defenfer in making during his Vitesse days and depending on his next club in the summer, should be a subject of intrest. Experience wise he has got enough under his belt. He just needs to prove himself at more competitive level.

I expect this will be the defensive pairing in the Euros unless FdB has totally lost his mind (highly possible). de Ligt can play on the left side with de Vrij on the right.

Long story short, De Vrij fits best in a 3 man backline. His vunerable in normal 2 man CB, fullback setup.

I always thought de Vrij did better for Inter than for the NT. Other than that, any comparisons to de Ligt this season is laughable and lacks nuance.

De Ligt has been injured and on top of it got infected with covid19. It’s been a difficult season for him in that regard. So in that context that he still has comparable stats with the CB from the league leaders says more about de Ligt’s quality than de Vrij’s “superiority”.

De Ligt could be the next Juve Captain I was reading. Shows his importance and status in the club after a difficult start there.
    Quality.

Those numbers produced by De Vrij and De Ligt, individually, are elite. No questions about it. The passing completion rate in 90%+ is simply terrific. CB’s who comfortable with the ball are necessity in these days and age.

The big question is if their chemistry will work to Oranje benefit. I am having a hard time remembering... but it doesn’t seem to me that they logged that much time playing together in Oranje back line. They do have 2-3 warm up games coming up (+ lots of practice time) to gel. You are bound to be disappointed with Cillessen or Krul under the bar... so a leak-proof defense is a must.

This is one reason why FDB should have done alterations in the formation to atleast have a plan B.

Nice to hear, best wishes for him and I hope he continues to develop. I really do!!

That said, wake me up when he’s in the first team, or move back to Eredivisie :p I am still hung over by Jeff Bruma... at age 18 (younger than Muyamba now, I believe), Bruma was killing it for Chelsea reserve team. If I recalled, he captained the team (or at least, was a very prominent member), took them to youth titles and collected accolades left and right. I also vaguely remembered that he was also called to the first team several times.... yet, you all knew how it turned out with the mighty Jeff Bruma

Bruma's positioning was awful and got him into trouble constantly

  21. Go back in time and read my comments on him. He was bloody awful and Bert van Marwijk insulted better defenders in the Eredivisie by selecting and playing him just because he was with a big club.
Actually the only time I was posting positive about him was after he returned to play for PSV and I concluded that after a few months Eredivisie he actually learned to defend.

  22. He never was vulnerable in a 4 man backline with Feyenoord. Was he vulnerable with Lazio? No.
So I dnot get your stance in this.

I’m hoping Karsdorp plays well today but Ajax wins and advances.
I wonder if Frank will be watching?
Then again I wonder if Frank knows who Rick Karsdorp is?
