It was not the cleanest strike, and he just barely escaped the offside, but it was certainly a confidence booster for Gakpo! Salah is going to be away for a little while for AFCON, so presumably Gakpo will see more minutes, though competition is pretty tight with Nunez, Jota and Diaz are all back to fitness! Iron sharpens iron.
Memphis scored 2 in Atletico 3-1 Copa Del Rey win 2 days ago. The problem is Simeone prefers Griezmann and Morata as the front two, then Correa, then Memphis. It is too bad that Memphis may not have much playing time now that he is fit again, and Netherlands will need him to play regularly heading into Euro as Weghorst and Brobbey does not give me a sense of security (besides Gakpo). I wonder if there is a club that wants a soon to be 30 year old forward like Memphis. Perhaps Koeman should test Dallinga and Zirkzee more in upcoming friendlies.
The Maatsen assist was the best part of the 2nd Malen goal. He gave up the ball cheaply but kept working and got the ball back. He was ahead of the winger and looked up seing Malen in perfect position, on sides, and delivered a picture perfect ball.
Yup, nice steal and pass by Maatsen. Koln defenders played Malen onside Malen makes it 3-0 for Dortmund following a brilliant tackle and assist from Ian Maatsen 🇳🇱#Bundesliga pic.twitter.com/qBQDhL3FA5— DAZN Canada (@DAZN_CA) January 20, 2024
Xavi just scored the 1-0 with a nice turn and a well placed shot. Leipzig 1 - 0 Leverkusen at HT 1748763276773593562 is not a valid tweet id
Brobbey is cooking.... 3 goals since the New Year! He's separating himself from his competitors for a spot in the NT. Zirkzee hasn't scored since mid December... looks like all the talks surrounding him being a hot transfer target have been major a distraction for him. Dallinga has been awfully quiet as well lately. Brobbey... 24 apps, 13 goals, 4 assists Dallinga... 27 apps, 9 goals, 2 assists Zirkzee... 24 apps, 8 goals, 2 assists
Brobbey with two more goals today; the first one was really great. Best on form striker right now and he's going to be starter for the NT.
Brobbey, wow! Amazing transformation after a rough start of the season. Something started to click for him around November time, and he simply could not be stopped now. 5 goals in last 3 matches. Kudos to him. Next week he will get to showcase against the table leader! Zirzkee finally ended his drought, first goal in last 6 or 7 weeks.
Memphis had a rare start today, and scored a nice diving header. He also netted last week's winner... 2 consecutive matches with goals!!
Memphis started again today, and scored another match winner! 2-1 final for Atletico. Missed a PK as well. Three goals in three matches. On a streak. Gakpo came off the bench...
Memphis looks good on the ball, and hopefully he can stay healthy and get more minutes. He had an excellent late run on his goal splitting 2 defenders, and had another goal ruled out 10 minutes earlier courtesy of VAR by a piece of his arm. Gakpo seems the odd man out at Liverpool even with Salah out. I just feel there is a softness about him at times which won’t help him, but also his versatility to serve in different positions does not help his development as a Striker. He needs to score more often.
Guess who's back to Eredivisie..... Myron Boadu, on loan to Twente Hope he can resurrect his career, but oh boy, it was such an ill-advised move to France (too early).
Boadu is a talented player who needs consistent minutes, and rebuild his career which has been stunted by the self induced decision to leave AZ too soon. Feyenoord was in for him at some point but Twente lands him.
Looks like the goal might have taken away from him, and was counted as opposing player’s own goal? I watched the highlight and it surely did it took a massive deflection. Too bad. Nonetheless yeah I think Zirkzee is firmly in the discussion for Oranje call-up in the near future.
