Gakpo has been rotated a lot… position-wise. It’s hard to score consistently when you are playing in different roles. And he was also injured for a good stretch. In all competitions so far, Gakpo scored as many goals as the other Liverpool attackers, bar Salah (I.e. Nunez and Jota). I think Diaz scored the fewest so far. We’ll see how the season unfolds… I think Gakpo will be just fine.
Just think about it. Sven Mislintat wanted him for Ajax, but Jan van Halst, Cees van Oevelen and Maurice Steijn blocked it, so they went for Georges Mikautadze and Chuba Akpom.
This was my original post. My primary focus here was to compare zirkzee vs brobbey and how once again the selectors are so blinded scouting brobbey over zirkzee only because of where they play. Anybody watching both can tell Zirkzee- has a better ceiling than brobbey however the in holland the mindset is that eredivisie is better than serie A and brobbey scoring in eredivisie is the same as those strikers scoring in serie A which is hilarious and brain fart. You said brobbey is improving , how??? Tapping in goals receiving it on the plate. Sorry that is not improving and scoring in eredivisie for fun is not the same as scoring in Serie A. I remember here people saying that brobbey flopped at Leipzig because he moved there to early when in fact he simply couldn't transition to the bundasliga style of playing. No service no show and this is what will happen to him when he departs ajax for bigger leagues.his first touches are still heavy, he keeps tumbling down with minimal contact, his skill less on the ball and on one on one. You tell me where has he improve. I do though see him as a good impact player off the bench like how the dutch coaches used luuk but to a more superior extent . Well in the box and him using his physic to his advantage. I still remember this was the highlight to his game before he moved to Leipzig and was on the bench for ajax behind haller I think. The akpom point was a secondary focus as even you can see he has hit the ground rolling and is 9-12 goals ratio behind brobbey in all competition.
This is magical thinking untethered from reality. Serie A is a very mediocre league these days aside from the top two or three teams. Zirksee is just another of the players who left The Netherlands too early and wasted several years of what might have been an above average career playing for a team he would never break through with and serving loans out to teams where he would not develop. He is tall but not nearly as strong or quick as Brobbey and has no hold up play either.
Serie A put a Finalist in all Cup competitions last Spring. Losing in the narrowest of margins in all Finals. Many so called experts predicted ManCity to wallop Inter in the Final, but we saw no such thing. After the Group Stage of this seasons European competition (UCL, EL, Conf L), Serie A had the highest co-efficient of all leagues, not even one of their clubs eliminated. Not bad considering their cannot compete monetarily. EPL overpays. Zirkzee is a fine player indeed.
Dude Do you even watch bologna games because reading from your comments it seems like you are not and Just hoaxing. What ever you have said above is all hoax and totally opposite and again this shows as usually you don’t follow players and how biased you always are expressing opinions in context to Ajax players. the weghorst comparison is even more hilarious
Yes, and let's make him an automatic starter for the Euros as he is undoubtedly also better than Malen.
I will say this again, brobbey no doubt is a humble guy and works hard being a target man esque striker but when you look at ceiling from development point of view it’s just low. He is a big guy for his age and uses his physic to his advantage and this is one and only key strength he has showing mostly on turns and holding up being at tops and in the box where he has been decisive. But then those are trade marks of any big striker and you would recall Janssen was in the same boat as well in eredivisie and then what happened to him at spurs and against quality defenders than eredivisie ones. Workrate was there but goals couldnt come. You have to weigh these things up. but again look here, my point was more on comparison between zirkzee and brobbery, who has a better ceiling and who would be a better investment in NT. I never said brobbey shud be ruled out I think brobbey is the kind of striker you need when chasing a game and like I said can make impact of the bench like what Van gaal did vs Argentina throwing both weghorst and luck de jong in. This is where he can be instrumental . Also that never forgetting tragedy vs NI in 2001 when van gaal threw everything at the dice trying to get back into the game trailing 1-0 by unleashing all 5 strikers. As for brobbey’s antics even you must have seen him frequently complaining to the referee wanting to draw free kicks when tumbling down in 50-50 balls or during collision. Vs Ak Athens I remember, he was booked for this after continuously showing his frustration to the referee. This was where I was coming just from the AK Athens games again, that game turned into Ajax’s favour after brobbey was subbed off and Martha came on. IMO Akpom is striker who knows when and where to be or be at the right place and right time and he is showing how effective he can be if serviced well. Yes it’s true Ajax has a constricted squad atm but it will be interesting to see which striker proves his dominance with an out and out attacking mid behind them but like I said this was secondary issue to zirzkee and brobbey comparison.
Whatever issues Brobbey has had this year has a lot to do with the lack of quality around him. Lacking and limited service rarely putting balls into the channels were he could use his pace is rarely seen by this Ajax side. Ajax play too much long ball were his hold up play has been very good, but it’s just not the Ajax way as far as I’m concerned. With more proactive running and faster possession this would benefit Brobbey and Bergwijn who are clearly marked men with very little support. AEK Athens match Brobbey reacted quite strongly after being clattered by the Croatian goon Vida. The man takes a beating every match there is no doubting this whatsoever. Can Brobbey control himself better here of course he can, but believe me he i can understand his unhappiness and reaction too. Janssen comparison is just inaccurate in my opinion as Vincent is nowhere near the athlete or player with lacking speed to Brobbey. Akpom? The man is just not a good footballer. Ending with Zirkzee he’s looking like a very good option that I hope Koeman is keeping an eye on rather than the likes of the very limited Weghorst who I believe is injured at the moment while lacking production when playing. Oranje fans feeling the pain of the decision making process of the Bondscoach is constantly a difficult matter.
Very painful night in Dublin vs the Republic of Ireland you mention with clueless and panicked Van Gaal having Kluivert Van Nistelrooy Makaay Hasselbaink and Van Hooijdonk on. Still to this day cannot believe we could not qualify for the World Cup with that loaded roster of top class players. I hate Van Gaal because of this.
Same thing happened in 1982 when the Lost and Tied with Ireland in the two group stage matches and did not qualify that season. They also missed out qualifying in 1986 when they lost the play off on away goals.
More forgettable moments indeed. I recall the freezing 86 PlayOff 2nd Leg where Georges Grun did us in with a very late goal. Nothing worse then 2002 though, which has been described as the biggest or worst failure to qualify a team that would be amongst the favorites to potentially win the World Cup. Portugal and Ireland were tough opponents no question, but the amount of top quality that Van Gaal had at his disposal was unbelievable. I still think the lost Dutch media left him off the hook still to this day.
I still think 1990 was an epic failure. Three lackluster draws in the group and then getting knocked out by Germany with both teams down a man after the spitting incident between Voller and Rijkaard.
But that wasnot the coach failure, but the players, especially Gullit, who lead the revolt in favour of Cruijff against Beenhakker. I still can see van Tiggelen say they (the players) would take over and let those "bobo's" smell a fart. So they completely ignored what Leo wanted (iirc Frank Rijkaard wasnot in it with the other players, hence I guess his frustration about the mess and his behaviour in the Germany match). Gullit was completely done with me when the mofo in 1994 had issues with the tactics of Dick Advokaat and decided to boycott/sabotage everything by not going to the USA, showing he hasnot learned a thing from 1990.
Extremely disappointing tournament. Not their finest performance clearly. Did not help that Gullit was not fully fit. Drawing lot’s condemned Dutch to face “West” Germany was unfortunate. Incredibly it was only 4 World Cup matches played for the World Class Legends Gullit & Van Basten with Marco never scoring.
Gullit got pissed after being pulled off during the Qualifier at Wembley and only returned for a pre World Cup Friendly with Scotland which he scored in. I truly believe had Gullit played in the World Cup in 94 Oranje could well have won the tournament. Sadly no Marco who retired from his persistent ankle injuries and failed surgeries at 28 was clearly another major loss for Oranje. That QF loss to Brazil was absolutely shambolic from the ridiculous performance of the Third World Referee crew. Thank you FIFA
