Agree and classic game of 4-4-2 being ravaged and dismantled by oponent with extra man in the midfield, 4-3-3 in Liverpool case. Villareal simply couldnt get the upper hand in midfield and as a result the forwards were starved. Have to give credit liverpool and klopp. There are a team on another level and title favorites not just for any reasons.

Yeah, I don't understand why do such a thing. Especially as Liverpool effectively have one 6 and two 8s.

  5. After reading this thread the Villarreal coach adopts and adapt conform our remarks and destroyes Liverpool at home 5-0.
    You read it first here:D

Memphis injured today had to come off in 2nd half. Hopefully nothing serious.

He’s been injured quite a bit so hopefully he gets past that and develops at Dortmund who obviously rate him very much.

Memphis has now logged 41 goals for Oranje, eclipsing Kluivert today, and only 1 behind KJH. RVP's record is within reach... will it be broken before the World Cup?

Extremely frustrating that Memphis has been treated so shabbily by Xavi, and the utterly mismanaged Barca.
Stupid decision by Barca to allow him to go especially considering he is the teams best attacker not named Lewandowski.
Very interested to see where he moves on to.
    The same applies to Frenkie.

I agree, and he should be extra motivated to play excellent football.
Memphis can be frustrating as we all know, but his versatility is a luxury that Xavi does not see.
Looks like Xavi and Laporta basically want to rid everyone from Koeman’s “team”, not that the Barca Legend was given much to work with other then slow old club guys and overrated physically weak youngsters.
Frenkie too deserves so much better.
I will be rooting for everyone against Barca now after my Dutch boys have been screwed with.

This may belong on midfield thread but what they have done to Frankie contract-wise in this negotiation is immoral and disgusting.

I hope Kluivert has an out clause in his contract if Fulham are relegated again. Fulham have been pretty quiet on the transfer (acquisition) market this summer, so it's hard to like their chances of staying up.

Yeah, taking points off one of the top clubs is a great start! (Besides Kluivert and Tete, I'm following Fulham's LB Antonee Robinson, who will start for the USA at the World Cup.)

I hadn't realized that Fulham brought in Portugal international Joao Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon for about 20MM GBP to play defensive midfielder. Along with Kluivert, I wonder if there are any more additions coming?

Gakpo is a stud. Two goals today in only 60 mins (substituted to save his energy, I suppose). Clearly MoTM. Several nice moves throughout the match -- one in particular he received the ball, gracefully turned his body around and blew the defender off with his speed. Piece of beauty. As long as he is staying hot, I think PSV have a decent chance to advance in Champions League!!

Let's hope so. He was absolutely missing in the first game against Monaco. Hardly had a touch of the ball. I remain unconvinced that Ruud is managing the team; I think Rutten is really the guy pulling the strings.

Could well be and in watching the first Leg in Monaco Ruud was going from the touch line back to the bench a lot so certainly Rutten is heavily involved here, and I think it’s smart to have an experienced guy to help navigate the ship.
