you call the bottom feeder clubs in epl garbage team, your discretion but I dont think wolves is a garbage team where El Ghazi scored the winner as well. Being said this and as I mentioned early El Ghazi's consistency is whats being his down fall. This is the very reason why he was under alot of criticism and was benched. With the arrival of barkely, traore and watkins, the depth in the team has increased and it has come down to rotation. Traore hasnt has hit the ground rolling as expected and with Barkely and Trezequet injured, El Ghazi is back in frame again and scoring. Even if he continues with this form, he still will be subject to rotation when barkely comes back from injury and with Grealish shifting to the wing. The only thing El Ghazi can do is make it count when ever he receives that opportunity and fight for a starting spot with a consistent level of performance. I had a look at bergwijns stat as well. has clocked more minutes than El ghazi and with big teams but hasnt made any impression either in epl. No goals and no assist for this season. Lets wait and see how el ghazi performs with bigger clubs if he gets to play.he did score vs city, Arsenal,Leicester last season.he did score vs city, Arsenal and leicester, Newcastle last season with assists as well.
first lets looks at his strengths when he plays for Villa. you look at this video and his technical abilities and tell me which winger in NT right now comes close to him. being said this, he still needs to improve on his consistency level at Villa . except groeneveld Danjuma
Oranje won’t play again until end of March. I eye-balled Aston Villa schedule, they will have 15 matches or so between now until early/mid March (where the squad is likely announced). Aston Villa will also be up against all top-tier clubs in that stretch. So definitely plenty of opportunities for El Ghazi to prove himself. If he plays well and racks up goals/assists - he will have a great chance to be invited. We shall see!! I have nothing against him, but honestly I am more excited by the young forwards... Malen, Stengs, Boadu, Bergwijn and Gakpo. They are a hungry bunch and fit in the same timetable as the powerhouse talents (namely Frenkie and De Ligt).
Apart from Ihattaren, I dont think there will be any faces. Why I say this, firstly one 2 or 3 caps is simply not enough to get their confidence level up to where it should going into a big tournament like euros.
FdB would be foolish not to increase the depth by introducing and/or trying new players outside the current squad. As I wrote before, the likes of Boadu (though scored yesterday!) and Bergwijn haven’t really hit their forms. Promes is seemingly a lost cause. So at least a couple of new players should be considered. My vote is for Gakpo - especially if he maintains his current trajectory. The other interesting factor is that Jong Oranje are involved in a playoff also in March. So the usual contenders for Oranje NT might drop down to U21. This, in theory, should open the door for El Ghazi!! Once he’s in, he can force himself and line-jump the others. OTOH, if he still can’t make it to squad March, well... that’s because he is simply not good enough. Plain and simple. A lot to be played between now and then... nice to have options than otherwise, for sure.
He seemed to be given freedom a lot by Slot to roam, and he practically played a no. 10 before. So this trend looks to continue. To me this makes sense, and could be a “win” for him in the long run. He is intelligent, creative and really good at dictating plays. He should really be in the middle. Reminds me a bit of Bernardo Silva (Man City) who made a pretty successful shift from a winger to a creator.
I don't think Mourinho fancies Bergwijn as he is not getting much playing time. I have never been convinced by him but that is just my opinion.
He was struggling earlier in the season with his lingering injuries (that also kept him out of Oranje). Once he’s back to fitness, actually Bergwijn got surprisingly plenty of minutes in the past month, and especially against the big boys (City, Chelsea, Liverpool). From the little I was able to watch, Maurinho seems to utilize Bergwijn as a counter-attacking tool due to his top speed and strong wide body to absorb challenges and stay on the ground. He has also been praised for his tremendous work rate in tracking back and defending. But as I often criticize, Bergwijn misfires and just can’t convert in front goal (missed two glorious chances v. Liverpool - which he was widely and rightfully condemned by Spurs fans). He will need to be concerned, now that his honeymoon is over (will be a year at Spurs next January).
At last sombody has stood up and said about the depth factor. This is a major down low for NT and the coaches still down wanna address this and not until this is injury to a key player, then they are forced to look at other options on last hour. I really dont understand this when most of other big teams end up almost rotating entire squad in certain games. I mean you look at Italian team when they played NT. Mancini made 7 changes to team that played Bosina prior to that qualifers. I waiting for the day when this will starting happening in NT. If not I cant see them winning anything. Moving on for me its Groeneveld anytime any day and its just unfortunate that he has taken the long road like van dijk and finds himdelf dropping down in championship. From his techincal qualities point of view, him and depay are match made in heaven. Im just praying he will be selected purley based on what he can do and not where he plays. He has already set the records straight at bornemouth and just needs to remain injury free.
Weghorst being linked with spurs for 35 mill. Joe Lewis is worth 5 billion, so he could easily afford him I guess: https://www.ad.nl/transfer-talk/spurs-weet-wat-het-moet-betalen-voor-weghorst~a56aba9f/
Im just curious why you say this? Again comparing promes and berghuis to him who are currently in NT, he has been proving him self in one of the best and toughest league while promes and berghuis have flopped elsewhere, only to return to eredivisie and also getting the nod in NT. How do you justify this. Ok lets say even he he returns to ajax, what will change? Even though Aston Villa is not a household name in the epl atm but still they get to play with top defenders, midfielders and attackers scattered in various clubs and they are doing good currently. Wouldnt this be better for EL ghazi's development rather coming back to eredivisie where it will be complete opposite and finding himself playing with average teams and players for most of the part.
So In other words ajax players will always get first perference or benefit of doubt if you wanna call it.
