Chappell Roan Leaves Wasserman Agency After Founder Appears in Epstein Files

Any USMNTers likely to follow suit?

Representation includes legends Donovan, Howard, Lalas et al and current stars and up-and-comers galore. McKennie, Aaronson, Turner, etc.

I know Casey Wasserman probably has little to do with our guys, but will Corey Gibbs leave Wasserman and the guys with him?

    Just wondering.

I saw this news story and wondered if somebody would mention it. The Wassermann group has represented a large number of USMNTers and MLSers.

He's also, it should be noted, the Chairman of the LA Olympics Organizing committee.

Doesn't Motzkin run the soccer division of Wasserman?
Maybe the athletes don't have much of an interaction with Casey.

Last I saw Corey Gibbs was a Senior Vice President.

Another formerly capped USMNTer, Chris Pontius, is now an agent with them.

Here is the link for those with a Times subscription.

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/70...in-files-uswnt-abby-wambach-wasserman-agency/

    snip:

Wambach is the first athlete to publicly cut ties with the agency, which is one of the biggest in the world, with clients spanning the worlds of sports and entertainment. Wasserman is also the head of the LA28 Olympic committee and has been in Italy for the Milan Cortina Games.

“I read Casey Wasserman’s correspondences in the Epstein files,” Wambach, a two-time gold medalist and the leading career scorer in the history of the United States Women’s National Team, wrote on Instagram. “I know what I know, and I am following my gut and my values.

“I will not participate in any business arrangement under his leadership.”

Edit: Also from the same article in the Athletic is this morsel:

Representatives for the Wasserman agency did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Shortly after Wambach’s statement, the executive committee of the LA28 board issued a statement in which it said it had conducted a review of Wasserman’s interactions with Maxwell and Epstein and that it found that “Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented.”

It added, “The Executive Committee of the Board has determined that based on these facts, as well as the strong leadership he has exhibited over the past ten years, Mr. Wasserman should continue to lead LA28 and deliver a safe and successful Games.”

Sexual harassment is bad enough but anything connected with Epstein implies child sexual harassment and that is even MUCH worse.
BUT, I suppose, nothing is proven about Wasserman so they need to be given some element of doubt? Nah, this is the USA so everyone is guilty until proven innocent.

so, stupid question probably, but there are no breaking/breach of contract issues here?

i guess from my completely ignorant pov players firing their "agent" makes enough sense, but what about gibbs/other agents working for the firm?

Some people are innocent even when guilty. For example, Tom Homan was caught on tape receiving $50K in a Cava bag. Our President was convicted of 34 charges but the Supreme Court let him off the hook.

As we know, being named in the Epstein Files doesn't always indicate any offence or problematic history. For instance, guys like Messi, Beckham, etc. are talked about in the Epstein files. Not in the context of anything resembling a crime, though.

Casey Wassermann? Sleezy and gross doesn't necessarily mean a criminal offence.

I just think it's a miracle that we haven't had some of the wealthy/powerful MLS owners involved in the scandal. Or, as somebody said in another thread, the uber-wealthy guys funding Pochettino's salary for the 2026 World Cup cycle.

There really could be implications for some sporting franchises as these files are leaked out.

We've been thru this whole thing in Boston with Robert Kraft at the Orchids of Asia massage parlor. He was never convicted. Sleazy and gross. Nobody talks about it anymore. Except, of course, when Jennifer Hudson was recently seen wearing an Orchids of Asia t-shirt. Epic trolling! Level 10!!

Jennifer Hudson sure looks different since she lost weight. Here’s a pic of her from American Idol.

You mean like how they handled the Josh Sargent-Phillippe Clement (both Wasserman clients) situation?

Shrug. When you have as many clients as the Wasserman group, there are good moves and bad moves. they're high volume.

Its the mom and pop agents that make really questionable decisions. Like the guy who orchestrated Pepi's move to Augsburg is the same guy who led Slonina to Chelsea. Same guy that had Justin Che making questionable moves.
