Singer joined the Washington Freedom in 2007 when they were a W-League team, then was kept on for the professional WPS team when they made her the first pick in the second round of the 2009 WPS draft. She started on a back line that included Becky Sauerbrunn and Cat Whitehill, then was cut late in 2010 to make room for Anita Asante. She's played overseas (Australia, Sweden, Germany) since then.
Kerstin Garefrekes is joining Washington Spirit http://ffc-frankfurt.de/bundesligat...hington/399853d60a786aba92424b1324404e57.html
A very interesting acquisition, I think I like it. I wonder whether they will play her up top or in the midfield. According to the article, she might be available for the Portland game. I hope the transfer paperwork goes through quickly.
"The 34-year-old will look to make her Spirit debut sometime in the next seven to 10 days." http://washingtonspirit.com/pro/spirit-acquire-german-midfielder-kerstin-garefrekes/
If you're think of who might be waived, consider this: "A Team wishing to waive a Player must first obtain a favorable medical examination of the Player – an “exit physical”, and then submit its waiver request to the League." http://www.nwslsoccer.com/home/about/732760.html I'm actually not sure they'd need to waive anyone. Current roster: GK: Harris, Jones (not counting call-ups for Gay or Spisak as needed, so that's 2) D: Gayle, Krieger, Sierra, Huster, Cross, Singer (Pressley injured, so just 6, total of 8) M: Averbuch, Lindsey, Nairn, Matheson, Perez, Dunn, Angeli, Garefrekes (8, total of 16) F: Taylor, Adams, Cuellar (3, total of 19) And Miller makes 20, if she's even taking up a roster spot right now.
My first thought was "Oh, good, because signing an over-the-hill German worked so well last year." But we'll see.
Pohlers played well but couldn't find the net, perhaps because the offense as a whole was lacking. I'm wondering if Garefrekes might fare better because she's sliding into an offense that already has Taylor and Matheson in good form.
The Spirit are touting a "BIG player announcement" to be made tomorrow afternoon. Parsons hinted months ago that they were looking at a very promising young international, so maybe that's what this is about.
Spirit have traded Bianca Sierra and their 2015 3rd and 4th round draft picks to the Breakers for Lisa DeVanna.
Devanna can't finish like Altidore. I would have traded her too. Boston is done this season away. Turn the rest of the season over to Reeves and let her grown. Team All Morena!
Why wouldn't you turn the offense over to Reeves if you are out the running for a playoff spot? Devanna isn't even coming back to the league next year. Take the second half of the season to develop Reeves. Yeah, that don't make sense.
I like to think SCCL was confused by this comment, not about the trade itself. Unless you meant Team Morena in India.
Colleen Williams can't catch a break: Sad to say that after 10 months of working my ass off to make a full recovery.. I just retore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus #betterdayslieahead— Colleen Williams (@cocopuffs555) June 3, 2014
We didn't already cover that? Happened a month ago. She was on trial with Sky Blue, which may have drafted her if the Spirit hadn't already taken her. And could probably have used her this year.
