The Post has a poll asking fans to name which players they would like wooed back to their respective teams.

United was included in the list with the Orioles, Capitals, Wizards, and Deadskins.

    United in 5th place

Only 2965 votes in the United category. Can we outpoll football?

What gets me is all the RDA votes. United already had him back and RDA Version 2.0 sucked.

I'm also suprised that Sanneh got so few votes. We are over 3000 votes and closing in....

"Somebody Else" at 15% does not look to good.

I guess there must be a lot of Carlos Llamosa, Scott Garlick, Richie Williams, Mario Gori, Eric Denton, Craig Ziadie, Justin Mapp, Jesse Marsch, Orlando Perez, Tom Presthus, Brian Kamler, Stephen Armstrong, Carey Talley, Chris Albright fans out there. (There are no ex-DC United players on the Dallas Burn)

Surely they cannot be voting for Mark Lisi!

I didn't see Ernie Ladd on the list, Mike... Guess I'll have to go look again. :)

Almost 3400 votes now. I highly encourage everybody to vote ONLY FOR SOCCER, and to choose a name, do not select "somebody else" even if that's how you feel. I would have picked Justin Mapp if he were an option, but he was not so I picked Eddie Pope. It would be nice if we had more votes than hockey.

    I vote my sports interests

Since I don't doubt that the folks at The Post are sophisticated enough to realize that we can stuff the ballot, and since I'm a fan on not just soccer, I encourage everyone to vote their interests. Comes a point when I believe soccer has been accepted by parts of the media as legitimate---and that point has been reached at The Post---so with them I can act like a normal sports fan and not as a defender of my favorite. I don't feel that way with other media polls, which is why I happily stuff away in places I don't think have become as enlightened.

Since I voted my interests, I answered for both the Redskins and United. I really don't care much about the Wizards and haven't a clue about who those hockey players were. And as for Baltimore's baseball team, well I'm not one of those DC area people their owner claims to be fans.

I was unable to vote more than once. BTW, I was serious about Mapp. :) Remember folks, the consensus isn't always right about a player. Wasn't Michael Jordan picked #3 in the NBA draft? Mapp is no Jordan, but I do think he is very very underrated on this board. Mapp has a world of ability.

    No it wouldn't :)

Oh Scott Stevens, why did the Blues have to break the NHL's bank and sign you away in 1990 and Poile and Polin refuse to match it? Look at the career you've had.

The guys I want back now are Thrash, Zednik, Sanneh, Mussina, Webber.

    S. Stevens is something like 37 or 38 now. I'd rather have Zednik. Mussina was a workhorse for the O's and Schilling, good as he still is, is 36 or 37.
CWebb was a flat out awful trade by Wes Unseld.

Yes, he's up there, but I wouldn't have minded having those extra 12 years in a capitals uniform by Captian Crunch.

Thrash, Stevens, Sanneh, Moose, and CWebb for me.

See what JMU said about Stevens for my reasoning.

The Devils are one of the top teams in the NHL, thanks to Scott Stevens. That pick is a no-brainer. When I played hockey I wore #3 because of Scott Stevens.

As much as I like Eddie Pope, Jamie Moreno, Jeff Agoos & Carlos Llamosa, The Big Cat was my vote (John Harkes will be back :) so I don't have to list him!).

We had a very respectable 4400 votes (compared to a little over 5000 for the Redskins) when I voted a minute ago. Hey, not bad.

I voted for Pope, by the way. Thought about Sanneh, but Pope's loss is more recent (and we don't have to play AGAINST Sanneh!).

    Current Numbers

Here are the current numbers for how many people voted for each respective sport. They are in the order in which they appear in the Poll, which is most likely the order in which the Post expected to get response (most response to least response expected):

    Football: 5464
    Basketball: 5375
    Hockey: 4963
    Baseball: 5167
    Soccer: 4813

My guess is that they ranked the "DC" major sports, then added the "quasi-DC" Baltimore Orioles and finally added soccer on a whim. Well, Soccer is within 150 votes of catching Hockey. We outdraw them, so let's out-vote them too!

    Vamos United!
