Talks about this time with Spurs and planned surgery to have bone chips removed from his elbows. Hope that goes ok. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A46993-2003May12.html
So Kasey won't be in France either. That means its most likely Brad and Tim on the 18 man roster for the Confederations Cup.
I'm not sure Bruce will take a guy from his MLS club to sit him on the bench - I think he only takes an MLS guy that he intends to start. It'll be interesting to see how he addresses this. Just to toss a name out there for consideration - Joe Cannon? His season should be over and nobody will miss him. He is listed on U.S. Soccer's MNT pool - http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/stats_results.sps?iType=265 On the other hand, he may take two starters and rotate them game by game.
lets not forget Marcus Hahnemann, the goalkeepers its the least of our problems, we will have to play a lot better against Brazil and especialy Turkey then we done recently. Our team will miss a few players thru injury or some needing rest( JOB). I think you will see a lot of MLS guys in there. My list includes most americans available from euro based teams : Euro 9 players: Brad Friedel, Gregg Berhalter, Steve Cherundolo, Eddie Lewis, Wade Barrett, Jovan Kirovski, Greg Vanney, Claudio Reyna, Marcus Hahnemann. From MLS 14 players: Chris Armas, DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan, Frankie Hejduk, Tim Howard, Chris Klein, Pablo Mastroeni, Brian McBride, Eddie Pope, Kyle Martino, Edson Buddle, Carlos Bocanegra, Bobby Convey, Dan Califf
Have you heard that JOB wants or needs a rest? He was out with an injury for quite some time, so it's not like he's been playing for 9 months solid. It'd be my guess that JOB would be there.
It's possible. He hasn't really had a break from playing since his brief "retirement" from the MNT in mid-2001.
As a Metro fan I thank you for leaving Clint Mathis at home. Now, if you could spare us Timmy and Eddie as well, we will run rampant over the League, while the rest of the Yanks slug it out in France.
damn how could i forget Clint, just went over my head, Clint of course so make that 15 MLS players, how many can we take to the Conf Cup 23 ? and yes I heard that JOB wants a rest, unless he changes his mind now that he has been on the bench in the last game(s)
We will definitely take Friedel. I think our keepers will be Friedel and Howard with them splitting time in the nets.
Depending on when Bruce gets the team together (and how far the team advances), it's possible that the MLS guys play for their clubs on June 14, go to France and play on the 19th, 21st and 23rd and are back for their club games on the 28th. For the MetroStars, that means one game - Los Angeles at MetroStars on 6/21. Personally, I think it's likely that the MLS guys will miss the games on the 14th and I hope the U.S. does well enough that they also miss games on the 28th. The impact on the clubs is basically 1-5 matches. Everyone plays on the Saturdays (14th, 21st, 28th). There are two midweek games on 6/18 (San Jose at Los Angeles & Dallas at Chicago) and one on 6/25 (Los Angeles at Colorado). I think the Galaxy has a lot more to worry about if their players are taken since they have five games over that period.
McBride will not be playing for the MNT this summer. His wife is due to have a baby this summer and he has asked The Bruce for a break. He'll continue to play for the Crew this summer.
I wish I could strike a ball as well as the"warzycha" but alas, I am not he. I guess the end of the summer tournaments will be the culmination of a long year and a half of National Team Play. Sounds like qualifying in '04 will start sooner than it ever has. It's good The Bruce is developing a deeper pool of talent.
Just a reminder - the Wahl interview says no Friedel, Keller, McBride, or O'Brien. And what exactly happened with Hahnemann? I mean, why wouldn't he get some call-ups as he gets better?
I'm trying to find out where Keller is getting his surgery done so the local supporters can send a card or something.
