    Diego Maradona vs juventus 1986/87

    “Assist”
    IMG_9018.gif

    “Pre assist BS”
    IMG_9019.gif

The ball bounced off two players before reaching the ‘assister’.

    IMG_9020.jpeg

Everything counts I guess though :ROFLMAO:

    Edit:
I just realised that Gasipo has already done the work and my eyes weren’t lying to me.
It was a bang average performance
    IMG_9025.jpeg

He produced only two good performances against Juventus in seven years
One on November 5th 1985, and the other in the 1990 Supercoppa Italiana (a minor cup that was essentially a pre season friendly).

Agree with you. Weight assists, pre assists and the jokes of "non opta" assists for their effective relevance on the scoring achievements and all the bold claims on " goal contribution" and "clutch contribution" of the marketing agents of Maradona & Associated boil down to the credibility of Ponzi scheme investments advertisings. In a post of a few months ago I myself reported the result of sampling a couple random assists os the unmatched clutch contributor Maradona that I could retrieve the footages of, and I found that in one case the assist was the consequence of targeted player missing the ball and involuntarily making it reach the eventual goal scorer, and in the second case it was a pass to a player that went on running for 40 meter and dribbling two defenders.

Maradona almost ends a players career with one of the most reckless challenges you’ll ever see and didn’t even receive a yellow card.

That isn’t different at all to the foul he suffered from Goikoetxea

Goikoetxea received a ten match ban while a lifetime suspension had been considered and was given an exaggerated nickname by the press that has followed him ever since, the so called Butcher of Bilbao.

Very hyperbolic, the physical treatment Maradona received in Italy is always over-exaggerated because he received a lot of fouls, even though the actual roughness of said fouls was almost never deadly. The idea that there was this 5-foot-5 supersoldier who was being killed every day and carried a bunch of nobodies to UEFA titles and Italian titles is 70% fiction.

Main reason why Maradona received a lot of fouls in Italy was that he would go in search of them all the time.

There needs to be a reevaluation of what it truly means to assist

When Sergio Busquets passes to Lionel Messi and Messi dribbles past half of the Real Madrid team in 2011 to score, that is not an assist for Busquets.

When Xavi passes to Lionel Messi and Messi dribbles past half of the Getafe team in 2007 and scores, that is not an assist for Xavi.

When Anderson passes to Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldo scores from forty yards in open play, that is not an assist for Anderson

They did not contribute meaningfully to the goal in any way

I am not limiting this to just these examples, but they are clear and indisputable cases I can think of immediately. There are no doubt dozens if not hundreds or even thousands of other instances where the player credited with the assist played virtually no role in the scoring of the goal.

An assist does not necessarily need to be a fifty yard long ball or a defense splitting through ball, but it must be a case where the assister played a significant role in the goal being scored and every assist should be evaluated on a case by case basis.
This G+A metric is a disease and specifically the ‘A’

Did they really assist or did they pass the ball to the goalscorer who did all the work for them?

The frauds will be weeded out this way

Recently, I calculated the average match ratings in European competitions for the following players: Falcao, Maradona, Platini, Matthäus, Gullit, Van Basten, and Rijkaard during their years playing in Italy. I’m not sure if it’s shocking or not, but Maradona turned out to be the worst — and the most striking part is that his average rating was actually below a passing score. The source is La Gazzetta dello Sport.

I didn't think so. Maradona were really poor in European competitions. Especially in champions league

    ....

    .

There was a time here when the legendary PuckVanHeel, a member here, proposed a match-Duel between Dennis Bergkamp vs. Diego Maradona for the UEFA Cup...Matches performances.

So, I watched several entire matches of both in the UEFA Cup.

Honestly, Maradona played much better than Dennis Bergkamp for Inter Milan

    .
    Diego Armando Maradona

    12 Matches, 3 Goals, 9 Assists, 3 Pre-assists, including Non-Opta actions of play-making.

Honestly, I've seen several entire matches of both.

    Maradona played much better.

Maradona Off the Ball : Center-Forward
Maradona on the Ball : Second Striker or Ponta de Lança or Enganche

Bergkamp Off the Ball : Center-Forward
Bergkamp on the Ball : Center-Forward or Second Striker .....

Despite scoring 8 goals, Dennis Bergkamp

was overshadowed by the greater performances, stronger personality, genius side and leadership of Ruben Sosa .

Ruben Sosa adapted much better to the tactical concepts of the Inter Milan's main Head- coach from this season 1993-1994.

    even Wim Jonk also

    1993-1994 season...........

    .......
    ..

    The games for Ajax 1991-1992

    Dennis Bergkamp

played better because of the tactical freedom
and because of Ajax's more offensive style of play

    But even so...

    Maradona...

    was more complete than Dennis.

    Dennis

Very good, with his first touch of class, yes

    but incomplete

    in
    various attributes

    missed a lot of goals

    in 1 vs 1

    against goalkeepers

    physical Attributes
    Mental Attributes

    etc...etc..etc ..
