Is he sure about that? I mean, I count like 2 or 3 World Cups... but I think those are the only times he's played.... wait a second, Cobi is one of the most capped players in FIFA history! OF COURSE HE'S HAD MORE THAN 30 INTERNATIONALS!

Man, if you're going to put a line to sell an item, make it good. Looks like this seller is a BIG idiot.

Has Cobi EVER worn #19? I have never seen him in anything but #13.

A poor attempt to copy a pre 1994 World Cup jersey. I don't trust any seller from outside the United States. Australian sellers are notorious for selling cheap fake Asian jerseys.

I wonder if this new campaign against rip offs in acutions online will help out in cases like this. Something needs to be done about counterfeiting, faking it, whatever. The sports market is just so vulnerable.

    Two words: caveat emptor.

Your friend did the right thing: a little due dilligence.

I sent the seller this e-mail:

Hi. Just wondering how you know the shirt was worn by Cobi Jones? Do you have personal knowledge (e.g. he gave it to you after the game), or is your basis second-hand information? Thank you!

Here's his answer. Take it or leave it as you will:

MY FRIEND PLAYED AGAINST HIM AND THEY SWAPPED SHIRTS,MY FRIEND PLAYED FOR AUSTRALIA, I HAVE TO CALL HIM UP I THINK IT WAS WHEN COBI WAS IN THE NATIONAL YOUTH TEAM, IT WAS EARLY IN HIS CAREER, BECAUSE HE ALWAYS WEARS THE 13 SHIRT.

If he provides a date for the match, and if someone verifies that game took place, that the U.S. wore white (that shirt) and that Cobi wore that number, then one can only trust the seller. If he can't then I just wouldn't purchase the jersey.

Even if the story is true that someone asked Cobi I would assume it would be easy for him to forget small details about a youth match so long ago.

You have a better chance of seeing me stagger out of the Quarterdeck with Jennifer Capriati than you do of seeing me wearing a Cobi Jones shirt.

That said, tell the Aussie putz to put the fly-infested beer can down for once and piss off.

The senior MNT has played Australia twice

A 1-0 loss in Orlando, Florida on June 13, 1992
Meola (Dodd), Clavijo, Balboa, Armstrong, Savage, Quinn, Michallik, Chung (Ibsen), B. Murray (Sorber), Perez, Stewart.

Cobi Jones earned his first three caps in 1992. September 3rd, October 9th, and October 19th. It is possible he was on the bench, but June 13th was still 3 months before his international debut.

The other Australia game was Bruce Arena's first game as head coach (it sucked, I was there), a 0-0 draw in San Jose, California on November 6, 1998

He says in his response that it was a youth national team match, not senior.

Ah. Missed that. I have TROUBLE READING ALL CAPS.

    Olympic team
Cobi Jones had 8 Olympic team caps in 1992.
    none against Australia.

The media guide doesn't provide historical lineups or appearance information for other age group teams. Possibly something like David Litterer's site might have the answer.
Cobi Jones was born in June, 1970.

It can't possibly be Cobi's actual jersey because the site says "size is large," and we all know that has never been said about Cobi.

    Did anyone else notice this?

If it was an actual game worn jersey, wouldn't it have the number on the front as well?
    Like so:

There's a chance that the guy isn't lying (though the absence of the front number says otherwise, and it's clearly not Cobi's jersey).
