In monday's San Jose paper, They report that Johnny Walker has signed with MLS.

"Jonny Walker said that he and Major League Soccer have agreed on a one-year contract and that he's waiting for Coach Frank Yallop to tell the league whether the Earthquakes want him. Yallop gave no hints as to his intentions, saying only that the team will have a second goalkeeper to pair with Conway."

    Thanks.

I wonder if any other clubs are interested in Walker besides San Jose. If so, I'd assume MLS would conduct a weighted lottery.

    Baardsen?

Any truth to this rumor of an Earthquakes/Espen Baardsen connection?

(Sorry if I spelled it wrong.)

Walker hasn't signed anything yet with anybody... The MLS hasn't released anything yet and they'd be the first to do it... I think they're in hefty talks, but nothing definite yet. Plus, Soccer America, who knows everything about every player - hasn't said a word either.... That reporter must have misinterpreted Walker's comments...

I think what the reporter wrote was accurate. It's more a matter of a few BigSoccer posters reading more into the article than what's actually written.

The key passage from the article says: "Jonny Walker said that he and Major League Soccer have agreed on a one-year contract and that he's waiting for Coach Frank Yallop to tell the league whether the Earthquakes want him."

Note the phrase "agreed on a one-year contract". If Jonny had actually signed a contract, presumably the author would have written "signed a one-year contract".

However, since Jonny and MLS have agreed to a one-year contract, presumably he and the league have hammered out what his salary would be and now its just a question of locating a team that'd be willing to sign him at that salary.

I think you're right. BTW, for the earlier poster, if you think MLS would be the first to announce anything it does you're really gullible. They're notorious for doing just the opposite.

Jonny Walker didn't sign anything and won't be signing in the MLS. They couldn't come to an agreement on the terms of a contract is what I heard...

I don't know about this. JW sounded like he was looking at playing Mexico. And I'd expect him to be able to make more money there than the MLS, especially factoring in cost of living.
