Sorry Unfortunately the USA will not get the chnace to face Wales best players as they have pulled out of the squad. Does anyone know the USA Squad ? If so can you email it to me at neilinbristol@aol.com Wales Squad To Play USA May 16, 2003 Paul Jones (Southampton) Darren Ward (Nottingham Forest) Andy Melville (Fulham) Mark Delaney (Aston Villa) Adrian Williams (Reading) Gary Speed (Newcastle) Paul Trollope (Northampton) Mark Pembridge (Everton) Simon Davies (Spurs) Matthew Jones (Leicester) Carl Robinson (Portsmouth) Andy Johnson (WBA) John Oster (Sunderland) Jason Koumas (WBA) David Vaughan (Crewe Alexandra) Gareth Taylor (Burnley) Simon Howarth (Tranmere) Rhys Day (Mansfield) Christian Roberts (Bristol City) Neil Roberts (Wigan) Major Withdrawals For USA Game May 16, 2003 Ryan Giggs, Robbie Savage, John Hartson and Craig Bellamy are the latest in a string of players to withdraw from the USA game. Ryan Giggs, Robbie Savage and Kit Symons are on paternity leave, with their wives/partners having recently given birth. John Hartson will be at Celtic's Uefa Cup Final against Seville the day after Wales leave for the USA. Play-off finals account for a further 7 players Robert Page, Nathan Blake, Danny Gabbidon, Robert Earnshaw, Rhys Weston and Steve Jenkins and Lee Fowler from the stand-by group. Mark Crossley (personal reasons) and Danny Coyne will not be going with Paul Jones and Darren Ward who is available after Nottingham Forest failed to reach the play-off final, will be the two goalkeepers to travel. Darren Barnard has a shoulder injury and Steve Roberts of Wrexham has to undergo surgery on an injured heel. Newcastle have refused permission for Craig Bellamy to travel as he is struggling with a knee injury and the club insist he must rest it. (SUPRISE,SUPRISE...) Rhys Day and Christian Roberts have been called up, both of whom are uncapped. Also called into the squad are Simon Howarth and Neil Roberts. This will inevitably lead to possibly the biggest test so far for Wales' unbeaten record.
Re: Sorry I am sorry to say( if you are a Wales fan) that the USA is about to give a lesson it administered to Mexcio last year: if you come over here and don't bring your first team, we will beat on you like a drum.Us USA fans would MUCH rather see a great game against Wales first team. I am afraid that Wales undefeated record is about to crash.
Problem is we're not bringing our first team either. We're bringing the San Jose/Washington all-stars plus Joe Cannon and maybe Jovan Kirovski and Eddie Lewis. Wales is still sending some very good players, particularly players who might put forth a little effort in a meaningless friendly. Koumas and Davies will be major threats.
I don't see these sort of things as bad for the U.S. Bruce wants to see lots of players. With games and situations like this, he gets that opportunity to call fringe guys in at times when it might not decimate the squad against a strong opponent. But we can't underestimate Wales. Those guys play at a very high level and JMM's play in MLS has shown that bench players in the EPL can come in and do very well in MLS.
Dragon , check the ussoccer website later today. The big question for the Nats is what Euro players will come over for the game. This looks like a decent Wales midfield in any case, even minus Giggs. The main weakness,it appears, is up front.
Re: Re: Sorry Pretty bold claim, considering the team we'll be fielding. Do you really think our C- team will whip up on this Wales team? I envy your optimism.
