I think we will see Wake come out very fired up and aggressive trying to shake the perception they don't perform well in post-season and because of the injury to Jerry White in c'ville earlier. Whether this helps them or takes them off their normal game remains to be seen.

By the way, a question. "Big Game" George? Was there some defining moment that earned him this moniker; or was it more like a life-time achievement award?

1996 - UVa takes one loss into the ACCs, loses the final (in C-ville) to Maryland, loses its first round NCAA Tournament game (at home) to George Mason.

1997 - George's best season but he loses the NCAA final (in Richmond) to UCLA after dominating the game.

1998 - lost to Duke in ACC semis, lost to Stanford, at home, in the NCAA quarters.

1999 - lost ACC final to Duke, lost in NCAA quarters, at home, to UCLA.

2000 - lost ACC final to North Carolina, lost NCAA quarterfinal, at home, to Creighton.

2001 - started the season 17-0-1, but lost ACC final to Clemson, lost first NCAA game, at home, to Seton Hall.

2002 - lost ACC final, to Maryland, lost first NCAA game, at home, to William & Mary.

    Record in ACC Finals: 1-5
Record in NCAA first round (or first NCAA game after first round bye): 4-3
    Record in NCAA quarterfinals: 1-3
    Record in NCAA finals: 0-1

Note: Under Gelnovatch, Virginia has yet to play an NCAA Tournament game outside the state of Virginia and the only two away from Charlottesville were the 97 Final Four games, 90 miles away in Richmond.

So, all this underachieving was with the homefield advantage.

In fairness, he is 1-0 in NCAA semi-finals and he's never lost a first round game at the ACC Tournament, including this year, and only lost in the semis once, 1997 to Duke. So, that bodes well for tonight, right?
