    We cut these players:
    Justi Baumgardt-Yamada
    Krista Davey
    Ronnie Fair
    Kim Montgomery

The WUSA Exercise of Option Date also witnessed a trade between the New York Power and Washington Freedom. New York traded goalkeeper Gao Hong to the Washington for future considerations.

Baumgardt was a good player to come on as a sub. I don't think that was too smart.

Since the Power will have the first pick in the waiver draft, who do you think they should take?

Putting my 'SoccerTV conspiracy cap' on, do you think that the Chinese told the Freedom that they could keep Bai Jie if they agreed to take Gao?

I, for one, am VERY sad to see Gao go. She and Gro were a hell of a pair. It was sad that she never really made it back from surgery, last year. However, her "poor" performance was every bit as much the defense's fault as hers, if not more. There was no defense last year! Even Saskia got robbed of a couple of wins, despite excellent performances by her, by a non existent defense.

I wonder how Gro is doing, btw. Does anyone know if she had a boy or girl?

However, I'm very happy for her, that she got picked up by another team, as I know she very much wanted to stay and play here. And I'm also glad that if she had to go somewhere, it was the Freedom. They're my "other" team.

I can't believe they waived Ronnie either! She was a very solid player for the Power. I liked her a lot. This season is going to be VERY interesting...

Awwwwww. I liked Gao too. :( I was hoping to see her back this season. To me, she was THE Power goalkeeper. That's too bad.

And why Ronnie?!?! Nooooooo! We should've kept Ronnie and Justi too.

does anyone else realize that Whelchel, Janss, and Pearman are the only original Power players... other than the Founders: Milbrett, Pearce, and Whalen.

    Gao

Perhaps a change of scenery might be a good thing for Gao. I felt really bad for her about the way things went last season and would love to see her finish her great career in a positive way.

Even though I'm not a Freedom fan, I will be pulling for Gao whenever she gets the chance to play in goal and I am really looking forward to seeing her here in San Diego July 16 and August 9.

They currently only have three listed:

    Emily Janss - right flank
    Anita Rapp - left flank
    Shannon Boxx - defensive mid

The Power should announce the signing of int'l Joanne Peters shortly, an attacking mid from Australia. I also expect them to have either Krista Davey, Kim Yankowski and/or Justi Baumgardt-Yamada, when the season starts, pending they go unsigned in the waiver draft.

    From "Fotball" to Motherhood

Gro had a boy and his name is Brage. BTW - Anka is pregnant as well and her due date is mid-April. :)

    :D

Wow! congrats to Anka! And how do you pronounce Brage? Is it Brahguh or Brahgay (like Bente?) or something totally different?

I hope they're all doing well!

    Gro's Son

Brage is not a very common name in Norway. I believe it is pronounced closer to "Brah-guh," but I will defer to Bauser or one of the other BS posters who lives in Norway. For the record, Bente's name is actually pronounced "Ben-tuh" not "Ben-tay" and Hege Riise's name is pronounced "Heh-guh" and not "Heh-gay."

    Re: Gro's Son

aahhhh... I always pronounced Hege Heh-guh and found it irritating when Gebauer would say Hay...Gay. However, I've heard so many people say Bentay that it made it sound correct. Brah-guh sounded more "correct" to me as well.

    thanks
    :)

    Norwegian Names

The problem is that most Norwegians are too nice to ever correct someone when they pronounce a name or a Norwegian word incorrectly. As annoying as "Hay-gay" and "Ben-tay" are, the all time worst Norwegian pronounciation was of Gro's name when San Diego first played New York and the Spirit announcer Chris Ello called her "Grow Asbestos." :D

Ronnie Fair is in the Spirit camp, and played midfield in the third period (yes, there were three 35-minutes periods.) The Spirit scored twice and gave up one goal during that final period - none of the regulars (like Aly, Mac, Julie, Joy, Berly, etc., were still in the game.)
