    ??

He's a SS stuck in an AMs body who SAF figured we'd turn into a CM ala Scholes.

I think we need to invent a new position for him. Let's call it: N/A.

There's a touch of young Gerrard in him. Not as physically or technically gifted, but he reminds me of him for some reason.

That's the thing. He exists in that grey area between a Lampard and a Gerrard, although he's not totally like either of them nor does he possess their range of passing or work rate.

    He's a bizarre creature.

He's a more technical Lampard for me.

I think we need to see more of his passing range still, but his first touch and control are pretty good and he is deceptively quick and can glide past players when needed.

His shooting from distance and finishing in general is probably his USP so far from what he has shown at Crewe too.

Powell has always been very error prone - passing to the opposition for no apparent reason - but a very good finisher.

The above is utterly pointless. I doubt we will even be able to flip him for a decent amount at this rate.

The Varela signing screams of one those "flips" as well.

I'd love to know who's behind these rubbish transfer moves(not saying Henriquez and Varela are bad players, they're not).

Well, Rafael and Fabio were the same type of move as Henriquez.

And Varela has shown promising signs for me so far.

Henriquez has been alright, but not as good as expected but still he can develop into a good striker in a few years.

I would have loaned him to the championship personally.

But i guess, it's still better than going the Macheda route of one bench riding loan after another. He should get game time at least and hopefully get promoted with Zaragoza.

The Rafael and Fabio move isn't exactly the same as there was an opening for them in the team.

How far down the pecking order are Varela and Henriquez? Again, I like both players but I don't like wasting players' time/careers.

The option on Rafael and Fabio was agreed when they were 15/16. Same with Henriquez.

Openings in the first team are immaterial when making these type of signings. Rafael was good enough to establish himself at RB only 3/4 years down the line and Fabio still hasn't fully despite chances here and there.

Henriquez has just been at the club for 1 year right now and still only 19.

Varela is slightly different sort of signing as he's a little bit older and knows who's he behind in advance and accepted the move knowing that. If he's good enough he'll be pushing Rafael and even the LB in 2 years or so.

We also have a similar option on Bruno Gomes too, who'll turn 18 next year and is also a striker.

    Reds in UEFA Youth League

Manchester United will compete in the inaugural UEFA Youth League following the draw in Monaco.

The Reds have entered the new tournament and will play against Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad as the format shadows the main competition at the group stage.

Nicky Butt is set to take charge of the Under-19 squad, having worked with this age-group during the pre-season. The league is based around January birthdays with no concessions.

"It will be a team taken from two sides – the Under-21s and the Under-18s," explained Academy coach Paul McGuinness to ManUtd.com.

"We have to make sure we get it right which won’t be easy. It will be a challenge but I’m sure the games will be really good experience for the boys."

    Well, this should be interesting.

Same draw as CL, i believe unless someone pulls out.

I bet those players that get to play in it are super pumped about it. Traveling across Europe playing footy as such a young lad? Gah, that's bliss.

So, I suspect players like Barmby, Pearson, Rothwell, Perreira will participate?

It'll give the likes of Rodwell and Pearson a game. There's a log jam at the mo in the u21s.
