Really good stuff! Grant Wahl putting in his time to really capture why United fans have such a special bond with the players. Big props to the Barra!
I am not a member of any of the three supporter's groups, but barra brava and the other groups are a big reason why I feel so good about the future of professional soccer in this country. Quality on the field is important, but you would be very, very hard pressed to find better quality fans in any sport. When people wonder if soccer can work in this country, just look at these guys. As far as I am concerned, they are the model for others to copy.
Good stuff from Wahl, in so much as I got to the bottom of each page, I was hoping there would be another "Continue Story" button.
Great article. Wahl really captured a lot of what the barra is about. He is also a pretty cool guy who has a real passion for the game.
Simply awesome and well deserved. Gosh i remember my first season in the barra, back at the start of 04, and how much I LOVED it. I felt so welcome and I LOVE the energy both Barra and Eagles bring. We simply are THE BEST supporters in MLS, and some of the tops in the world if you ask me. To this day, that awesome feeling has never worn off and im now deep into my third "official" season as a member. Great stuff!!!!!!
Just put this up on digg.com. Go Digg It and see if we can get some recognition in the general sports landscape! Great article... http://digg.com/soccer/United_they_rule
Excellent article. Thought that accurately sums up an evening with the Barra. Wonder when he's planning on doing an article about spending an afternoon with some Red Bull fans?
He would need the help of that guy from America's Most Wanted to track em down first. (Grins) Just posted on the N&A board about it, a really positive article, and a credit to the league. Still doesn't mean I don't hate United's guts, mind you, but a couple years after the incident, it's a sports hate and not the burning hatred I had after the trip.
Depends on when both of them can get together. It might be tough, I understand it's difficult for them to get the same hours off from their shifts at Wal-mart.
Jeez...it only took them 10 years to put it together and didn't gie credit to the none deserving, but hey...better late than never. Truly, allow me to hail you guys for all your efforts and love for the team. Unlike me, who has become the prodigal son that shows up to some games, drinks your beer, bangs your girlfriends, then drinks more of your beer while sporting a t-shirt, "who's your baghdaddy?!" I've sort of become the Howard Hughes to United. All kidding aside, it's about time the media recognized one of the best fan clubs in the US and for once, soccer fans are not compared to the Eagles fans (god I hope the Hink ain't reading this).
Anyone article that quotes my brother and Big Rob deserves a bump --A very cool piece about the Barra and United fans in general. We should ALL send Wahl a kind note.
