    PIERCE SEEKING SPOT AMONG ELITE

The 2000 SuperDraft will always be remembered for the elite class of
defenders which emerged that season. In fact, among the 18 players
called up by U.S. National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena for the upcoming
match against Mexico on May 8 in Houston, there are three defenders taken
among the first six picks of the that draft (Nick Garcia - No. 2,
Carlos Bocanegra - No. 4, Danny Califf - No. 6). However, one of the elite
names from 2000 that has not found a way to garner the same
consideration is New England Revolution defender Rusty Pierce (No. 14 pick). "I
feel in I'm in the same line as those guys and feel I should be
mentioned in same breath as them," he said.

Jay returns to the BigSoccer Boards with all the requisite cynicism.
