Tournament will be postponed from December 2019, as announced on Monday. No date given, but maybe we can speculate, sometime in about 2020.

On a related note, Sierra Leone was involved in some confusion in 2016, when Fifa's secretary-general said they should bid for the U-17 Women's World Cup. Sierra Leone still hasn't hosted a football tournament since a 1993 men's cup, so this WAFU Women's Cup would be the country's first in this century.

So much for the 12 teams. The outside teams didn't enter: Niger, Togo & Burkina Faso. And Mauritania didn't enter, either, but playing in the UNAF tournament instead.

A rare chance to see some of these teams in action, though all 8 had played before.

    Cape Verde v Guinea-Bissau - full match, 2018
    At the Stripey Stadium

[IMG] This WAFU final caused some surprise, but the Mali squad list (-Footmali) confirms they called up just 4 players from the 2018 Cup of Nations, and only Mali-based club players.

[IMG] Senegal did have 3 squad members return from overseas to give them an edge – including Mama Diop of French D2 club Toulouse.

[IMG] Liberia, who recently returned to the international fray, were offered a win bonus right from the top: the First Lady, Clar Marie Weah, wife of Liberian soccer hero (and now president) George Weah.

[IMG] [IMG] Some of the the tournament was broadcast and is online, with 2nd-half action from Gambia v Guinea-Bissau, who looked lively but were both knocked out of group B.
Liberia posted highlights of their easy 4-0 win over Guinea-Bissau (Lucy Massaquio 13’, Bernice Willie 43’, Angeline Kieh 45’, Lucy Kikeh 72’).

[IMG] Cape Verde put in a great effort to make the semis, but fell 4-0 to Mali, whose Aguissa Diarra and Zeinabu Sidibe got 2 goals each.

The other semi-final had Liberia and their more experienced opponent... Could they earn that win bonus?!

Then it was the final, at Wusum Sports Stadium in the city of Makeni. Here are short highlights.
