" WADE BARRETT ON HIS WAY TO NORWEGIAN FOOTBALL AGFs american defender Wade Barrett has been given permission to go to a try out in the norwegian club Frederikstad 27-year old Barrett has never had the succes in Århus, that AGF and he hoped, when (former AGF coach) Poul Hansen brought him to the "Smiling City" in the winter 2003. Neither has the short yankee been able to get a definite place on the (danish league) SAS Liga team under (new AGF coach) Sören Åkeby - because of an injury among other things. Now Barrett wants to try his luck in Norway, where he has gone for a weeks tryout with the new (norwegian league) Tippeliga team Frederikstad. - Wade Barrett has asked us for this oportunity, and we won't put aany hindrances in his way in his attempt to get a new contract in a new club. The players in AGF should feel that the club also thinks about their interests, says AGFs Frank Heskjær. The former MLS All Star player, who represented Ronnie Ekelunds San Jose Earthquakes, has a contract with AGF untill next summer. Frederikstad is an old traditional club in norwegian football, but it has had some tough years as of late. Before this season, Frederikstad was promoted to the Tippeliga, but has had trouble in the first 11 matches, which has only given 2 victories. Frederikstad is the Tippeliga team that has let in most goals (25). The clubs topscorer is the former (danish 1st divison team) Fremad Amager-attacker Håkan Söderstjerna, and the club has the former (danish superliga team) Brøndby-player Roger Helland in defense. ------ Ok, I think this would be a bad move. First off, AGF is ambitious, and has the financial ability to take one of the places that gives a place in the european tournaments, or at least the Royal League, while Frederikstad has to fight to avoid relegation. Second the norwegian league isn't as good as the danish when you look past Rosenborg. The danish league always has several teams that compete for first place, giving more big matches, and also greater posibility for upsets. And third, Wade will not be guaranteed a place in Frederikstads first team, so even if he isn't always on the first team in AGF, noone says it'll be better in Frederikstad. Certainly not if he keeps getting injured. Stay and fight, Wade. You can do it.
I don't really know his situation in Denmark but hasn't he not been playing much lately? He can probably get more time with Frederikstad so it's worth looking at if you're him.
Wowbagger, it may seem like a lateral move, but Barrett's in Europe for the experience of playing and living abroad. If he thinks he's got a chance to start there (which he can't know yet, and Fredrikstad hasn't said they want him yet), it's a chance for him to try out a new country, on a club that he feels values him more. AGF is being nice to let him go, but the fact that they're willing to let him go shows a certain indifference about his abilities on the part of the club.
******SPECULATION GALORE****** Didn't AGF just get a new coach? Maybe the new coach sat Wade down and said, "Look. You're just not in my plans. I've got a buddy over in Frederikstad, though, and I can organize a trial if you like. Would you like that?" Then Wade says, "Sure. I guess." And the club says, "Wade asked us this - and we are being so nice to let him go try out! <Pats self on back.>" ....That, or Wade will have to start paying taxes this year, and a move to Norway makes him more bank? Regardless, good luck to Wade with whatever happens.
Your quite right, the new AGF coach have just had a little talk with all the players, and told them who are needed... and who AGF will try to help getting a contract in another club... as the club writes, though Wade wasnt the big succes, he has worked hard for AGF, so they want to help him getting a new contract with Frederikstad ... and no, I'm quite sure he will not end up at Rosenborg... .

http://www.f-b.no/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040618/FFK/251485074/-1/OutFBFFK Looks as if the trial want well for both parties. The radio interview implies that if a deal can be worked out, Barrett may be moving to Norway.
While we're on the subject, anyone know what this is about? Bare ved to-tre anledninger var det farlig foran MIFs mål, og det ble alt for tamt mot et agressivt MIF." http://www.home.no/amot-fotball/amot2004/januar.htm Doesn't appear to be an obvious Yank at Åmot IF based on that site, but I could be wrong.
It seems that an "American" is about the way the first and 3rd goal was scored, so it must be some kind of Norwegian slang ... like he made an "american" ... what ever that is ?? ... .
Or maybe: He blatanly disregarded the rules, hacked, fouled, and injured players on the other team, scored a goal (or maybe not), and then complained to the ref about it.
Can anyone say if this means Barrett is on his way to Norway? http://www.f-b.no/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040622/FFK/261550576/-1/OutFBFFK
Translation: The american Wade Barrett has impressed during the week he has been training with FFK. Now FFK wants to get the player. - We have started negotiations with both the player and club, says sport manager Harry Hansen. Barrett has a contract with the danish top league club AGF. FFK primarily wants to have Barrett for the rest of the season (EDIT by me: the norwegian league starts in the spring, and ends in winter). FFK has to buy him, or as an alternative rent him. - I don't think it will be an expensive solution for us, and I don't think that money matters will stop the transfer, says Hansen.
Deimos...are you joking, or serious??? If you're joking, I'll give you some rep., because that's very funny.
From past interviews posted on Big Soccer, it appears that Barrett aspires to European football. With the success of Scandinavian teams in Euro 2004, it may be that teams in Denmark's superleague may receive more respect. Perhaps Barrett can transition to a club on the continent based on his experience with AGF in Aarhus.
"An "amerikaner" is a sort of penalty which is usually used in indoor soccer tournaments. The penalty is taken by a player who starts from the midfield and tries to score against the goalkeeper within a limited time interval." --------------------------------------------------------- that is indeed a riot!! finallly we make our mark on the euros. not the way we thought.
