Impact captain returns to where it all started

Last weekend, Impact captain Davy Arnaud had a homecoming of sorts, playing against long time team mate and friend Jack Jewsbury and the Portland Timbers for the very first time.

This Saturday, he’s playing against his former team, Sporting Kansas City, in the city where he spent the last 10 years.

“It will be pretty special,” said Arnaud. “Definitely when the schedule came out, it was one of the games that I took a look. Kansas City is a special place for me. I look forward to it.”

As much as he may be anticipating the return, the former U.S. international will have to adjust to the changes that come with being the enemy on game day.

“The whole weekend will be different feeling. Going to KC and staying in a hotel, sitting on the visitors’ bench, coming off a bus to the stadium for the game. It’ll be an adjustment, but I’m ready to go.”

    Preview:
Impact faces Eastern Conference leaders Sporting KC at LIVESTRONG Park on Saturday
    [IMG]

With the possibility of playing seven games in just 22 days (with Canadian Championship play), the Impact technical staff plans on bringing in some fresh legs on Saturday. Defenders Nelson Rivas and Hassoun Camara are set to see their first game action of the season following lengthy injures that kept them on the sidelines since preseason.

“We’re going to have a lot of new faces on Saturday, but we are still expecting to put a good team on the field and go for the result,” added Marsch. “Hassoun has really moved himself along and he looks sharp, and so has Rivas.”

“It’s really easy to play with Nelson,” said Camara. “He has such great experience from playing in Italy. He is very confident and calm in the back. I hope that the injuries are behind us and we can contribute to the team’s success, beginning with a result on Saturday.”

The MLS site shows Sebrango and Braun starting up front .. and Ferrari taking a rest. Interesting, Ubi, Braun and Sebrango were all subs last game, and start this game. According to the site anyway. Marsch has an organized mind. ;)

Felipe places one in the low corner from distance .. 1-0! Just admiring the CBs they have such quality with the ball.. Bernier has played well, some good passes up the field, etc .. not sure why he doesn't start most games.

KC play by play is pretty good. Not brain dead homers. And they actually call the game and not chat instead. Unusual in MLS. Bernier got a dumb yellow right in front of Marsch, maybe that's why he doesn't start most games. .. Marsch said F- on tv ..

Bernier scores! 2-0 .. on a PK ... Neagle made a good run and was taken down right in front of the keeper. I'm seriously enjoying this. Ferrari in for Rivas.. Rivas was great. 64th min. KC had been putting the pressure on..

Impact wins 2-0 in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The expansion Montreal Impact stunned Sporting Kansas City 2-0 at Livestrong Sporting Park on Saturday night, handing the hosts their second straight loss – both shutouts – after a 7-0-0 start.

Montreal won their first road match and recorded their first back-to-back MLS wins in club history and are unbeaten in their last three matches. Sporting – who were coming off a bye week – conceded two goals in a match for the first time this year and saw their scoreless streak reach 205 minutes.

Felipe Martins’ goal at the half-hour mark put the Impact up 1-0, and Patrice Bernier iced it with a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.

Great! CBs (Camara and Rivas) were SOLID. I am glad to see we got 4 quality CBs and we are very good defensively unlike TFC. However, I think the Attack and FBs got to improve

Brazilian midfielder scored game-winner in KC

If a picture paints 1,000 words, then the smile on Impact midfielder Felipe’s face after scoring on Saturday asks, “Goal of the Week nominee?”

The 21-year midfielder scored his first ever goal in MLS - and what a goal it was - against Sporting KC, beating goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen with an absolute curler from 35 meters. His goal proved to be the game winner, in a 2-0 win on the road, the Impact’s first in MLS.

    Rivas' dynamite debut
    lifts Impact's defensive potential

MONTREAL — Montreal Impact fans had longed to watch him play, and the wait was undeniably worth it.

Colombian defender Nelson Rivas made a sensational debut to his MLS career on Saturday night in the Impact’s 2-0 upset of Sporting Kansas City.

Despite not having taken part in a competitive game since March 2011, the former Inter Milan center back turned in a Man of the Match-worthy 60 minutes and displayed his vast array of defensive skills, as evidenced by the five interceptions, six clearances and three recoveries he made, as well as the four tackles he won.

Donovan Ricketts nominated for Save of the week

    Vote for Ricketts!
For a second time this season, Impact goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts has been nominated for the Save of the Week.

With the score still at 0-0, the Jamaican keeper made a key save on CJ Sapong's volley to keep his team in the game.
