I know there is a current discussion going on at https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35057 . However, I'd like to see how everyone feels about it.
so far... so far there is a pretty even 50/50 split. If you have strong feelings either way, give explanations for your vote.
I'm happy letting the coaches decide this one. I can't see how Harkes is practicing from up here in Vermont, so I'm willing to go with Hudson et als. judgement.
I voted to take him because he wouldn't just be a player but he'd be a coach on the field. That's why he was the captian for DC and the Nats in the past. Even if he wouldn't play huge amounts of minutes he'd be a good addition to the squod and have a good effect on the youngsters.
Take him and quit messing around with "Chino". I too an tired of this visa issue cropping up all the time. He is a good kid and gives 100% but he is not worth the hassles involved with bringing him in every year. Takes Harkes for a season and start over again with another youngster next off season.
I can't believe the vote is this close. No Harkes, please. How is Wynalda going to be able to do sideline reports during DC games?
We just got rid of our aged D-mid who slowed the pace of this young team. I don't think Chino is the issue, I assume he's a goner given that he can't seem to find the breadcrumb trial back to RFK. The issue is Namoff and he has a considerable upside left in him.
On the one hand, I think it would be a fair deal for Harkes to retire in a United uniform. Seems only fitting given his contributions early on with the league and team. But on the other hand, can you really justify his presence on the team? What would he truly bring, besides sentimental "warm fuzzies?" I was surprised to see he played only 11 games last year for the Crew due to injury. Do we really need that type of player now? I voted no simply because it's unclear to me that the potential benefits of bringing him back really outweigh the negatives. I'll trust Hudson to make that evaluation.
where is this posted at? I can't find anything about Harkes being let go on either Washingtonpost.com or DCUnited.com.
Re-read the post you responded to. No one said it was posted at Washingtonpost.com or DCUnited.com. In that thread the Washington Post's Steven Goff announced this fact (https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=773261#post773261). I imagine it will show up on those websites later today or tomorrow.
