No, I'm not setting up some lame poll here. But I did see a bit on TSN.ca (http://www.tsn.ca/tsn/news_story.asp?id=163312) about the team setting up a vote. https://www.torontoprosoccer.com/Register.jsp The names on the ballot are: Toronto FC Inter Toronto FC Toronto Northmen FC Toronto Nationals Toronto Reds There's also a write in spot. I'm hoping that the darkhorse 'Toronto 1836' pulls out a victory.
Sportin' of 'em to offer a write-in choice. Just put in for TORONTO CITY. Hope that all others who prefer that by their comments on this board will follow suit. May the best moniker win.
Although I don't have anything to do with Toronto or the soccer club there other than having spent 2 awesome weeks in the city a few years ago. I voted for: Toronto Rebels (sp.?) (since they are so rebellious to be in Canada)
I too like Toronto City (without and FC or SC tags) but I like Toronto Reds, it has a nice ring to it and its not been debated at all. Red for Canada and its also the colour of the maple leaf. Although there are obvious reasons for me to like this name (and it makes my handle look cool) this is not really pandering to Liverpool as just about any team in Red uses the Reds tag just as we use the blue and white for the leafs. Urawa Reds is a Japanese team (i think) and didn't the S.Korea fans adopt the Reds as their name for their NT.
I think of the Cincy Reds before I think of Liverpool or Urawa or SK. If I may say so, that's what makes a good name. It has significance, it makes sense, it isn't a cheap rip-off of someone elses good name. While I think Toronto City is a good name, Toronto Reds also is good. Fans should be proud of either one.
