The 2002 MLS Donkey Team (3-4-3) Goalkeeper: Tony Meola Defenders: City of Mckinney,Texas Steve Jolley NJSEA Midfielders: Ian Bishop Noel Kenny Paulina Rubio Landon Donovan Forwards: Ante Razov Carlos Ruiz Daniel Amokachi Coach: Octavio Zambrano Note: Please vote now. The Poll will expired after October 20, 2002 (the date of the 2002 MLS Cup) and will announce the winner.
personally, i felt paulina rubio should've gotten on the final list as well. same as razov. now that i think about it, the two of them have quite a bit in common... Rubio - notorious for awful show at All-Star Game Razov - notorious for awful stomp on Heaps' nards. Razov can't score on anyone (except the revs) Rubio can't score with anyone (except record execs) Rubio's clothing of choice - g-string Razov's clothing of choice - sports bra Razov - still bitter about not making WC squad Rubio - still bitter about not making glee club in high school Rubio - a no-talent Shakira wannabe Razov - a no-talent El Matador wannabe (i'm not saying El Matador was talented either) Razov - sucks. Rubio - ....you get the picture. But, from the list you got, i'd have to say Meola - hell, give him the Lifetime Achievement Donkey Award - better yet, call it the Albright Award.
i was gonna put that whole thing on the last thread, but you closed it just as i was gonna post. sorry for taking up space.
You forgot to list McBride. He's a donkey-type player who had a great World Cup and got to the MLS semifinals too. Go Brian!
You should have nominated them in the earlier thread that I had: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=373211#post373211 However I doubt both would have received enough votes to get into the final poll.
The city council of McKinney sucks because they wussed out DAYS before passing the measure. However, to those who know North Texas, this is a blessing. Whatever stadium Hunt gets will be much more convenient. Still, they do suck. tm
My vote goes for the former Metro coach, Octavio Zambrano, because: 1. He forgot to have Mathis on the Line-up card in the Metros' first post World Cup game. I know the assistant coach prepares it, but OZ you SIGN the line up card. Blames assistant coach. assistant Coach gets fired. 2. Has Danny Hernandez traded away. What did Steve Nichol (a real coach) say about DH - ``Daniel has real quality, he has a great touch and a good head on his shoulders. When things get a bit nip-and-tuck, you need someone who has a wee bit extra. ...He's now playing in the middle where he should be and I'm sure any team in the league would like him there.'' Every team but the OZ coached Metros. 3. Publicly announces that his struggling superstar, Clint Mathis, needs to seek a psychologist / psychiatrist. Really good for team chemistry. 4. In a must win game against DC takes off all of the forwards and has Ted Chronopolous as the lone striker. I am sure that OZ is predicting that Chrono will win the 2003 MLS scoring title 5. In the last game of the season, starts Mark Lisi over Brad Davis. Future MLS benchwarmer over potential US MNT player. Brilliant 6. When it is abvious to everyone that his two central defenders, Jolley and Petke are lost and can not perform the roles assigned them in Oz's 4-4-2, Does he make any adjustments? NO Should I continue?
As of October 21, 2002 at 9:20 am, the result are as follow: City of Mckinney, Texas 37 votes 31.62% Octavio Zambrano 28 votes 23.93% Ian Bishop 22 votes 18.80% Tony Meola 16 votes 13.68% Noel Kenny 10 votes 8.55% Steve Jolley 4 votes 3.42% Congratulation to the City of McKinney, Texas (especially the city council) for becoming Big Soccer's (tm) 1st Annual MLS Donkey of the Year Award. You earn this dubious honor for NOT letting the Dallas Burn to join with Columbus Crew and the 2002 MLS Champs LA Galaxy to have their own SS stadium in your backyard. Just think how much of an economic boost and positive images IT WOULD HAVE BROUGHT to you city. But I guess such things like that are not important to ya'll. So congrats.
