Man, there were some damn nice goals in MLS this week. If the quality of the goals says anything about the league, then MLS is going places.
Magee's was absolutely incredible, one of the most fantastic headers I think I've ever seen. But Esky isn't too far behind with his amazing finish. In fact, if I was "judging them instead of tallying them" (paraphrasing Jason Kreis), these would be my scores: 1. Magee - 9.5 Wow!!!!! 2. Esky - 9.4 Wow!!! 3. Kiro - 8.0 Good, but not as good as the first two. 4. Heaps - 7.0 Nice, but not GOTW material 5. Herzog - 5.5 An alert keeper could've stopped that one. The most impressive thing about both Magee's and Eskandarian's goals were that both were one time touch finishes from the run of play. So nice to see Alecko finish like that. After the way he played on Saturday, my thoughts that we wasted a draft pick on him started to vanish. So, even though I think Magee's goal was slightly better (I think headers are amazing), I'm voting for Esky. I'm a United fan after all. Speaking of which, Moreno's goal should've been on the list too. His was better than Kirovski's.
It's a close battle between worthy opponents, Esky needs your help. Currently holding off Magee by 74 votes. We can't let the MetroScum win even in a poll.
Magee's goal was pretty amazing, but there was a lot of luck involved with that one. He kind of just got his head on the ball and hoped for the best. I'm not just saying that because he's got that Metrostink, I thought Wolyniec's goal last season should have been goal of the year.
Every ball that goes into the net has a bit of luck that goes into it. If Eski's shot it 2 inches farther to the right, it bangs off the post and goes out for a goal kick.
True enough, but Alecko sized up his target and aimed for the far post. I don't think Magee ever saw the goal on that play (which, in a way makes it all the more unbelievable!).
Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I found Kirovski's goal more appealing to watch (totally a personal preference). Moreno's, though, may have been a more impressive achievment.
Was the goalie well positioned to stop Magee's goal? Esky's finish was excellent...If he had finished the other breakaway, that wouldve also been a nice goal....
He was positioned fine, but I'm sure not too many goalies expect a shot on goal, off a glancing header, from 20 yards out.
Alecko's goal is down by 11 votes to Magees on MLSNet, but he's winning by a landslide on the Fox Sports poll!!!
I don't care what Jeff Bradley says, Magee's goal looks pretty lucky to me. Esky's was a thing of pure beauty!
Windows XP certainly makes stuffing Internet ballot boxes much easier. Just create a new logon and logon with it, surf to the site with the vote, vote for your favorite, logoff, logon as an adminstrator and delete the new profie, repeat.
Not that this has anything to do with Alecko's goal, but I was watching the game again last night and, is it just me, or does Alecko look faster this year than last year. Earlier I thought he had a bad game (other than the goal) because he couldn't get around defenders, but after watching the game again, that boy was hussling all over the place and showed some really good pace several times. Congratulations Esky on your goal. Great job!
