    Just another city specific thread.

Volgograd is one of the most popular destinations for foreigners in Russia for years because of it's WW2 history and famous memorial sites, so there is quite a bit of info on various travel blogs.
But if you have anything to ask being local in Volgograd for long time I'll will try to help out...

I have tix for Saudi vs Egypt (June 25). I will be in Saint Petersburg before that game and need to get to Moscow by the morning of June 26. Not only are there no decent flights to Volgograd, but flights from Volgograd to Moscow for the morning of June 26 are going for around $900 USD. I can figure out a way to get to Volgograd but getting to Moscow on June 26 appears unlikely at this point unless flight prices drop. Does anyone have any solutions?

Overnight train one of the best options to get to Volgograd from Moscow.
It's 18 hr but very comfy and relyable. 200USD max on good sleeping compartment. And more enjoyable I would say...
Here is the link how to buy paid train tix step by step fron local Volgograd club fans

The tourist information I've read mentions multi-day Volga river cruises but not any 1-2 hour sightseeing cruises. Do those exist or is there not much to see from the river in the city?

Short river cruises available and very popular in summer time as it gets very hot.
Usually its 1-1,5 hr cruise from central terminal (just below fan fest area) to Volgograd Arena and back.
Some of them has bar caraoke and dancing floor.
and its cheap - like 500 rub - less then 10 US
There is also public transport ferry connecting to suburbs across the river - just opposite fanzone - is 50 rub one way - 1$
read this, google will help with rough understanding
