Cobi is playing some of his best soccer I've ever seen him play. No more "speed moves" to the corner for Cobi. I'm sure we all want better options for 2006, but I still think Cobi can help the Nats in the next 2 years.

    Discuss or flame me.

I think he's played well for the Galaxy. However, his usefullness for the Nats was exposed in Korea. He played his role perfectly but there's not much room for him over 90 minutes. Also, over the next two years the goal will be to develop some new players since we don't really have many games where we have to produce a result. I wouldn't count on seeing Cobi in the lineup anymore, at least not the starting lineup.

I will say that I've always liked Cobi and will miss him.

I thought this was gonna be an impassioned plea for VivaCobi to return to these lonely boards.

VivaCobi: far more valuable to BS than Actual Cobi is to the MNT

I say he should be called in every time we play Mexico. Even after he retires :D

While we're at it, let's call in Lalas too. I'm confident Lalas and Cobi could take on the entire Mexican team by themselves. :D

I thought it would be too. I'll never forget how he added the word haterade to my vocabulary.

I think Cobi's fantastic. He probably gets ripped more than any american on this board but he's contributed as much to U.s. soccer over the last 10 years as anybody. That said, I don't think he'll be around in 2006 but it's been a great ride.
As he's showing during MLS, cobi's still got something left and I'm happy for his success. Just wish it wasn't coming with the Galaxy, but I guess we can't have everything.

Actually Reyna, McBride and Armas might have him there

I'll always respect Cobi for all he has done for US soccer. I only saw him in 1 World Cup (this year) but, he has created so many lasting memories in my mind. So overall, maybe we won't be seein' him in the next WC, but he might be in qualifying or commentating. I'll be happy to see him anywhere. :)

I agree. Out of all the All-Stars at the pre-game promo, he was one of the nicest. He's consistent on the field and a very professional second half sub.

When Cobi came on in the portugal game and killed the last few minutes almost completely by himself he became immune from my criticism forever.

Yep. Nobody can deplete lasting minutes like Cobi. NOBODY! And I mean this as a compliment. :)

You should have watched the World Cup this year. The U.S. did remarkably well, overcoming in their first game one of the pre tournament favorites, Portugal.

In this game, Cobi Jones played an extremely valuable role in helping to kill the clock against a very dangerous team. He did himself, his team, and his country very proud. It's too bad you didn't see it.

    Cobi

Now c'mon, this is a stretch ... Cobi made a couple of decent plays holding the ball against an exhausted Portugal team. It's not like Ante Razov or Josh Wolff or any other half-decent MLS forward couldn't have done the same.

Cobi has received a lot of undeserved stick because he's not world class. Which was beside the point that he was among the best the U.S. had to offer. Not any more, though. Cobi, thanks for your contributions, but truly your time has passed.

Viva Cobi, on the other, would seem to be in his/her prime.

Agreed. And JohnR, you obviously did not read my 2nd post. I love Ante and Josh (remember I'm a Fire fan) but, Cobi was the only one who could have done it. He proved that he still had something, and that's all he needed to prove.

Cobi's the best time killer. He'll hold on to the ball and keep it away from you at all costs. His duties against Portugal and Mexico were awesome. He even got up after that nasty foul in the Mexico game. Any other player would lose the ball in that kind of pressure. Cobi would not only die, he'd kill to kill time with the ball at his feet.

Oh, I saw it alright. I guess what YOU didn't see was VivaCobi's doggedly persistent, selfless efforts in defense of Cobi's talent, skills, and much-maligned penile stature. Plus, he got me hooked on "haterade."

I guess what you also didn't see was my tongue, I guess because it was hidden in my cheek

sorry man, I have seen the error of my ways...I'm senstive to the Cobi issue if you couldn't tell. As I've said since I saw him in WCQ pre '94, I've love me some CobiJones.

(I got here right before VCs departure)
