Well, Tottenham Hotspur is coming to play DC United on 5/14 in what will be a sort-of testimonial match for John Harkes.

    Press Release: US tour dates

    9/12/02 12:38
    United fans

Manchester United will meet some familiar foes during their 2003 pre-season tour of the United States as the Red Devils play against three of the most famous names in European football as well as the biggest club in Mexico.

The tour opens on July 22 in Seattle, where United will play Glasgow Celtic at the Seahawks Stadium. It continues in Los Angeles with a fixture against Club América of Mexico on July 27 at the Coliseum.

The team will then fly to the East Coast to meet Juventus at Giants Stadium, just outside New York, on July 31. The tour will wrap up with a game against Barcelona on August 3 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. It will be the first sports event held at the city’s spectacular new stadium.

Peter Kenyon, chief executive of Manchester United, said: “Everyone at the club is looking forward to the tour. We’ll be taking over all our top players, and the quality of the opposition means American fans will get the chance to watch some world-class football. We know the sport has a large and passionate following in the States, especially among young people, and we hope the tour generates even more excitement about the beautiful game.”

Charlie Stillitano, chairman and founder of ChampionsWorld, the New Jersey-based company promoting and managing the tour, said: “Without question, US soccer fans are in for their biggest treat in years. It will be a soccer ‘summer of dreams’ that is unparalleled in this country since the World Cup of 1994. More than four dozen superstar players and coaches of World Cup pedigree will make this the most dramatic series of games here in years and will create memories for their American faithful.”
