Re: Villarreal (r) Yeah, mystery that the people who slag of Riquelme just happen to support River Plate, hmmmm what a coincidence.
Re: Villarreal (r) Amargos? Why? Cause I don't like Riquelme? Its not that I dont like him I just dont think hes all that.Do I have to be like everyone else and go with the flow? I think hes too soft and heres a post from awhile back to let you know that it doesnt have to do with this game. taken from this thread:https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2656 Take Tevez for an example, thats a player that I do think has to be a starter for the WC eventhough I hope tonight he chokes like ROman or even gets injured and is ready to play just in time for the WC.You guys (bosterso) talk about that its us River fans talking shyt if the player would have been a player that has played for River you guys would be ripping him a new one.But this is not the case. read my previous post on regarding Riquelme.I hope/wish him the best. Carry on bosta im through with this topic.
Re: Villarreal (r) Oh my freaking god!! You bosteros are missing my whole point. You think because I support River I'm gonna bash him any which way I can? Absolutely not. As a matter of fact, I do in fact support him playing for the National Team, just like I do Tevez. I think somebody here posted there starting 11 with Riquelme lined up behind Tevez, Messi, and Crespo. I would totally support that. But, when it comes down to it, he had the chance to give his team the tie on aggregate, and he blew it. Plain and simple. I don't doubt for a second that he's a great player. Sure, he pretty much lead Villarreal to the semi-finals to the Champions League, but great players find a way to lead there teams to the promise land, and he didn't. Example #1. When Tevez pretty much won the Olympic gold for the National Team with his performances. Example #2 When Messi won the WYC in Holland last year.
Re: Villarreal (r) i'm really not interested in the boca river rivalry, everytime it rears its head it seems to take the thread off topic. it's boring and repetitive. the criticism of roman is totally ridiculous. in fact it makes me downright angry. to say that he is now with a better team than boca is totally missing the point. the competition is stronger therefore villarreal are a comparitively weaker team than boca were when roman played for them, because in terms of personnel, boca were one of the best in s america whereas, in terms of personnel, villarreal are not. what villarreal have is a football magician. why oh why do his critics single him out when villarreal lose? which member of the villarreal side played better than roman? so he didn't dazzle in the way he can, no-one is denying that, but to suggest he played badly only exposes your football ignorance, forgive me if i'm being rude. villarreal totally dominated arsenal and roman was their most important player, either because he was dictating the play, or when he wasn't, he was occupying about half their side, therefore leaving room for his teammates and simultaneously denying arsenal any opportunity to attack because they were so paranoid about him. someone said earlier in this thread that roman to a large extent relies on the movement of his strikers, and this is true. he's not a ronaldinho. he won't go on mazy dribbles, skip past opponents at pace and run directly at goal. he is a playmaker. plain and simple. and he's the best in the business at it. if he had strikers of a higher calibre alongside him, oh my god. forlan, jose mari, franco, in european terms these guys aren't even third rate. football is a team game, so why are you criticising roman and roman alone? this is the question i don't understand? if villarreal lose, why is it only his fault? please explain. maybe, just maybe, he choked for the penalty with the last kick of the semi. but you know what? there wouldn't have been a semi without roman, thus you wouldn't even have the opportunity to say he choked. those that think argentina can go further without him are plain deluded. we're lucky to have him.
Re: Villarreal (r) Example # 3: When Riquelme won several argentine titles, copa libertadores and the Copa Intercontinental against Real Madrid. (or did you forget already?) At any rate, Riquelme may have failed to take Villareal all the way, but I cannot think of any Argentine midfielder who could have replaced Riquelme this season and could have lead Villareal to the champions league semifinal, as Riquelme did. Honestly, can you think of one? The Champion league is the most prestigious tournament after the World Cup, it features most of the top players in the world, and it is likely that those who will make a difference at the World Cup played this tournament. And Riquelme led Villarreal all the way to the semis. I know it's a team effort, but I don' think anybody would argue that he wasn't the main factor that they made it so far. I think that, aside from Riquelme, Villareal was the least talented of the four semifinalists. And yet they came very close to advancing. True, Roman missed the penalty that could have taken them to overtime, and possibly to the final, but he's the one who got them that far, so lets not go overboard with the criticism. If Roman can lead us all the way to the semis at the World Cup, then I'll be happy. After that we can have Messi take over and take us the rest of the way.
Re: Villarreal (r) it's like a guy dribbling the entire length of the field, beating ten opponents on the way, singlehandedly, and then when he only has the keeper to beat, he fails, and everyone pours scorn on him and criticises him and calls him a loser, forgetting what took him into that position in the first place. no roman, you're not maradona, but you're still a ********ing great player.
Re: Villarreal (r) nah, Riquelme choked on that penalty. That was a defining moment in any player's carrer that separetes the good from the great.
Re: Villarreal (r) Not to mention the one at the intercontinental against Boca. Man, that Sheva sure sucks.
Re: Villarreal (r) Dude you're completely missing my point. I never said Roman sucked, all I said was he "choked" by missing that penalty. Big big difference. Would you like me to give you the definition of "choking" so we can be clear on this?
Re: Villarreal (r) I realize that, but I still think you guys are somewhat confused as to what I was talking about. Hell, I'll even give you a quick example of what "choking" is all about. Say for example your Islanders made the Stanley Cup Playoffs and were up 3-0 against the other team. Then the other team won the next four games and won the series 4-3. That would mean the Islanders "choked". Reason why that is, is because they couldn't get the job done when it was sitting right there in front of them. When it mattered the most. That's what I was referring to when I mentioned Roman "choked". It wasn't a corner kick, or a counter attack, or a direct freekick. It was a penalty between him and Lehman. All he had to do was put the ball in the back of the ole onion bag and he failed to do so when it MATTERED.
Re: Villarreal (r) Leo ... I hear you and know how you think by now. I was simply referring to ElMuneco's previous post in this thread, in which he brought Palermo up. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8221099&postcount=72 .
Re: Villarreal (r) So then he missed the penalty, like many others. Not chocked. Chocking was what Eto'o did to his country against Egypt in WCQ ... in added time. If you know the incident. Let me just educate a few of you ... that same Lehmann was the heroe for Schalke 04 when they beat Inter in penalty shoot-outs at the Meazza for an UEFA Cup Final 2nd leg in '96-97. He is no stranger to a penalty as important as Tuesday's, away from home. In the 1st leg, Roman did not get a fair refereeing. In the 2nd leg, he did carry his team thru out the game. And never chocked on the penalty. He took his responsability to shoot it. And he missed. Roman is not the greatest fooballer ... but he is surely the closest there has come to Zidane. Place him in a team like Juve in the late 90s or Real Madrid's galacticos of 01-02 and he would be the new Di Stefano. By far. Just wait for the WC. His first WC ... .
Re: Villarreal (r) After seeing the level of Barça - Milan, I think it's time for Roman to move to a bigger team. I usually like players who have loyalty to their team, and it would be sad for Villa, but Roman deserves to be surrounded by world class players to be able to shine fully.
Re: Villarreal (r) great post ids. i can't understand for the life of me why people think we can do better than riquelme. if you can't see what a accomplishment it was for him to take villarreal to a semi final and see how great he is with the talent around him than your blind. if you guys have trouble remembering take a look back last year against brazil and see what kind of game he had a what a goal he scored. he's 27 and is on top of his game. there maybe only 1 or 2 players in the world that i would replace him with. and thats a big maybe. and the person who wants tevez to get hurt and be ready just in time for the world cup so river could have an easier time with corinthians deserves a BIG kick in the ass.
Re: Villarreal (r) how can one say this things or even imagine being an Argentinian fan. For me Argentina comes before my club. tbh, those who brings River Plate and Boca juniors rivalry into the national team irritates me a lot. common, there won't be any River plate or Boca Juniors, if there is no ARGENTINA. learn to respect your country and to support your NT's important players. if riquelme /Aimar plays bad game for his club, every other people will say Argentinian player Riquelme/Aimar not River Plate player Aimar or Boca Juniors player Riquelme played an awful game. Learn from this guys one being from River plate and one from Boca Juniors, they are so close friends.
Re: Villarreal (r) This is probably the worst post of all. Riquelme is not fast, but he's a quick thinker and his precise short and long passing game creates changes of rythm that put the defenses off balance. For somebody to say that he stops fast paced attacks with his pause, well, they probably don't watch much football. Pause and change of rythm, that is South American football at its best.
Re: Villarreal (r) A few year ago, Menotti was asked who was the fastest player in the game. His answer was Colombia's Valderrama. He was the fastest thinker in the game. With Valderrama, the ball moves at the speed you want ... where you want it. The quicker you realize where, the better you read the game. A great player. Not for everyone. Same as Roman. .
Re: Villarreal (r) I just managed to read the full thread, lol, the posts afetr the semi 2nd leg that is. All I can say is I agree with everything said by JuveFE, ASF, VIP, Leon, ILF and ofcourse most of all IDS. The rest (river and that) can just ***k off.
Re: Villarreal (r) It is no surprise to see that everyone centers around Riquelme when talking about Villarreal. In a way, everyone is admitting that Villarreal is led by Roman and that if they got that far in the CL is thanx to him. But ... What about Sorin? What do you guys think of his role in both semifinal legs? He is Argentina's captain. .
Re: Villarreal (r) Have I said Villareal didnt get their cause of Roman? He for sure is the the biggest reason why they did reach the semifinals of the champion league and I never said he sucked in where I have mentioned a few times before that he is a great player but not all the hype everyone believes atleast not me. I know it seems kinda messed up for some because im a River fan and there will always be that doubt.Like I said before if i think a player is good I have no problem in saying so like I have said about Tevez that to me he has to start on the NT come the WC and hes a bostero, like also Ronaldihno to me is the best player in the world right now and hes brazilian. So? As for Sorin what else can you ask from him either that he runs like crazy and that he sacrifices himself just about every game meaning also that he doesnt play well in all games. His last games have been some what kind of mediocre.
Villarreal 06-07 ... Villarreal are looking to add depth to their squad for the following season ... knowing that they also will take part of the Intertoto in the 3rd week of July. They enter the 3rd qualifying round ... and if they get thru this round, they are automatically into the 2nd round of UEFA Cup. The aim is to have a 19-20 player squad of competitive players. So far they've signed forward Nihat from Real Sociedad. There are talks that two Inter players might end at Villarreal ... Materazzi and Kily Gonzales Forlan might be going to Barza for around 15 million Euros. Barza offered 12 and the buy out clause if 23 ... radio Marca speculated that the 15 might close the deal. Zaragoza's Cani is close to signing for around 8 million Euros ... payable over time. Sorin was said to be in the plans of Valencia. Pires might end up signing with the team too. He would come as a free agent, with a 2 year contract. From another board: Lets hear what else is cooking at Villa. .
