No. If we sold everybody who ever had a dip in form, we'd have nobody left!

Sorry to disappoint the resident Scouser trolls, but Giggs has basically said that if it were up to him, he'd remain at United for the rest of his career. He has been with the team for so long, and has remained generally consistent. It's hard to find any reason for the team to let him go.

Suppose for whatever reason Giggs won't be back. Is there anyone in the current squad who can ably take his place on left wing?

Kieran Richardson has the potential, but he's still a year or two away really. O'Shea could get a look in. Otherwise, we'd really have to buy to replace Giggs.

I really don't think he's going anywhere though.

Not quite sure which part you don't understand so:

O'Shea has played well in every position we've asked him to play this year. Don't forget he even played center mid once or twice. And he looks more than comfortable when overlapping from left and right back. Why not experiment with it?

As for the original question of, who on our current squad is ready to take over, I'm not sure we have one. In that case, we'd have to buy to replace him.

If you put Ryan Giggs next to Quinton Fortune - it's not really the same is it? No slight on Fortune, but he's a squad rotation player, not our starting left winger.

Personally, i can't believe we're all giving Giggs stick. True, he isn't playing his best football, but we have people like Keane, RvN, Veron, Ferdinand, Solskjaer etc... who arguably aren't playing their best.

I will miss the old Giggs, and i don't think we'll see him playing his best again, but he is still a world class player, and i wouldn't swap him for anyone else, he has contributed so much to Man Utd and although he isn't hitting top form, we shouldn't be talking about replacements, we aren't Liverpool supporters after all.

Think what it would be like if we had to play someone like Hesky on the left wing.

My post was basically out of respect for Giggs. I think he's an amazing player, and would love to see him in a Liverpool jersey. But, yea, it'll never happen and that was the joke.

Big difference between overlapping from the back and playing wing especially since fullback isn't his best position. Playing central midfield is much closer to his natural position.

When Giggs is at his best he makes flying past defenders look easy. Fitness, confidence, luck, opportunities play a very important part. He's had poor patches every season, but they are soon forgotten once he is on form.
