Mods feel free to sticky this (considering this is probably the only public viewing place in the entire Bay Area) This game is on HDNet and HDNet only. Which means (as of today) no Direct Kick viewing. The Britannia Arms in Almaden just had high def TV's installed and now get HDNet (I stopped by tonight to check). The viewing party will be there. Ricky's would have loved to host us again, but they're having their Raiders pre-game party on Saturday. He did ask us to consider him again for any future games if there are no conflicts. This means the Almaden Brit is possibly the only public place in the whole Bay Area, including SF, where you can see this game. Ironically enough, I already have a commitment and can't attend, but I'm sure there will be enough people to make up the difference. Guy Quakes vs Wiz on HDNet 9/18/04 kickoff is at 5:30 pm Britannia Arms-Almaden 5027 Almaden Expy San Jose, CA 95118-2050 (408) 266-0550
I'm there--be fun to hang with the lads again after my not so pleasant experience, which I will tell offline (and only there--answers the phrase below my moniker)... anyone up for some post game revelry? woo hoo you are the man Guy even though you'll be there in spirit! Cheers!
Guy, you're the greatest. (Didn't think I'd say that did ya?) Thanks for checking that out. I will be there.
Okay, okay. I hate SOMEBODY. I wanted to see this game - and now I'm left out, unless I get over to Circuit City and convince them to turn it on...and keep the store open past closing time.
I'm psyched. Our TV's HD and the regular games on FSN look awful. It's nearly impossible to tell who anyone is ("Oh wait, that's Waibel, he's bald"..."No, no, it's Mullan, I can see his sideburns"), and this should be nice.
Is there anyplace on the peninsula that'll be showing the game? My daughter has a 4:00 game in Palo Alto, and I would imagine that by the time we could get down to the Brit, it would be overflowing...
Start making some calls, bsman. I wouldn't know that this is going to be at the Brit unless it were for ggayle.
I would recommend the Old Pro (Oregon Expwy @ El Camino Real), which has some HDTV, but I'd assume that place will be jam-packed with college football fans on a Saturday afternoon. I already asked Austin's BBQ (El Camino Real in Mtn. View), which has HDTV and HDnet, but they'll definitely be showing college football because their place is a homebase for alumni groups of a few Texas/midwest universities. I'm not sure if Knuckles (at the Hyatt Rickeys in PA) has HDTV. I ********ing hate, hate, hate the Almaden Brit.
True, but it's more "restauranty". And, like the original Old Pro, their reason to exist is college football. No way they shut down a screen on a college football Saturday for MLS. I have no animosity with them about this, FWiW, because they make no bones about the fact they're a college football joint.
bluejaded: "Goodsport, you're old enough to be my father." Goodsport: "No, bluejaded, I AM YOUR FATHER".
Let me talk to your parents. I bet I can convince them. I have HDTV near downtown Palo Alto. Come on by (if you don't mind dogs--they like to watch the games too).
I think of all the places I've been too, Ricky's staff were the most warmly hospitable to us. Of course, the way they thanked us, I think they were greatly relieved that we were not the Raider Nation or those fans from Posnan.
I may be able to host a viewing party in San Carlos. (Must discuss with wife first. Probably should not mention on internet until after discussion with wife.) I get HDNet, but I don't actually have a HDTV, but that's OK, the game still looks pretty good on a regular TV, you just can't read the score box or the clock since it's designed for a higher resolution than my TV can show. Randy, did you ever get that HDTivo? <drool>
Ooooh, we do have HDTV. Do you have dogs, Bill? That may help people decide. P.S. Our dogs only drink water, but like chips, salsa is fine too.
